Hi everyone, I run RockTorch.com at rocktorch.com The site is dedicated to musicians recommending other acts, so I am looking for some Paul quotes that have appeared in the media about other artists he admires. I remember a quote about Jackson Browne, but I can't find it. Anyway, if you know of one, let me know? Thanks, Randy editor@rocktorch.com rocktorch.com

Thanks, Randy editor@rocktorch.com rocktorch.comFinding the exact quote is going to be challenging. Paul covered Jackson Browne's "These Days" on the CFMT record. I remember there was at least one interview where he explains this somewhat odd song choice. I do not recall that he came out as a huge Jackson Browne fan, however. You might be better off sticking with something obvious - "I'm in love with that song." (Alex Chilton) CF

When he played These Days on WXRT he mentioned that it was a song he'd always liked, but never played, and then he noted that it was written by Jackson Browne. Then he launched into a version that's pretty much identical to Nico's, so I always figured it was her version that inspired him to do the cover. Hell, I didn't even know that Jackson Browne had written the song until I heard Paul say that. Nico's recording is one of those cases where a cover completely eclipses the original.
Anyway, finding quotes of Paul actually recommending other acts is going to be really tough. He just doesn't do it that often.

Thanks for the comments guys. If you remember anything, let me know. I assume he must have said something about The Faces or Keith Richards.... Anyway, hope you check the site at rocktorch.comIt is new, so I am very interested in your feedback. Randy

I can't quite recall where it's from , but Paul DID talk about running into Jackson Brown backstage when he went to see Tom Petty play. Something about Jackson walking past him and their eyes met. Paul said he thought about talking to him, since he had done the cover of "These Days" but didn't, that he missed his chance. And then he said that it was really the Nico version he was in love with, that he's never heard the Jackson Brown original!
That may be from a Harp Magazine interview? Does that sound familiar to anyone?

Does that sound familiar to anyone? Yes, that's the article I was thinking of..Not sure if it was Harp, though.. Anyway, it would have to be pretty old (2003?) so it will be hard to find. I'm pretty sure it was just something that appeared online. CF

Around '93 in an interview with Rolling Stone Paul gave props to Joni Mitchell. I doubt it's online, but you can probably find it on a library's magazine database.

What is the line he drops in the DVD when he's stuck in an elevator with Curt Cobain, without either acknowledging the other? "I was dying to be anywhere else, and he was just dying to die." Or something along those lines. I know it's not exactly a reccomendation for Nirvana, but it is damn funny. Anybody remember exactly?

"He [PW] gets positively animated when discussing the Leatherwoods, a Minneapolis group he's begun producing. 'They have great elements they just need to bring together,' he says.
In turn Paul remains a fan of some of his early rock n' role models. 'We played a gig in New York with Keith Richards on our last tour,' he recalls, 'They didn't want us hanging around backstage but I snuck in and got a polaroid of me and Keith. Course he's looking at me like I'm the guy who sweeps up! Hey, we've always worshipped the dinosaurs we were supposed to hate. We loved Rod Stewart, the Stones, Led Zeppelin."

Another one from the CFMT movie that I thought was funny. "We got more p*ssy than Motorhead".

Wow...you guys have been great. Thanks again for the contribution. I'd love to get some more on the Leatherwoods interview. That is pretty obscure. And I hope to post some of the more obvious ones (Faces, Keith Richards, etc.). Thanks again, y'all... Randy rocktorch.com
