Not trying to be gratuitously negative, just wanted to put the recent Ghost on the Canvas-hate in context. The tracks are listed in rough order by amount of grousing about 'em (or lack thereof) over the years.

Jingle shouldn't be on there. I totally sing it whenever the wifey makes me go to Wal-mart. It cuts down on impulse purchases (who needs one more piece of plastic crap?) as well as repeat trips.

Wow, I wasn't even aware that people didn't like Baby Learns to Crawl. I guess it's kind of an odd opener, but I've always liked it.

I assume this is just a factual listing of 'first tracks' and no effort has been made to pre-judge.. But, I think a safe observation is that Paul doesn't put his best songs first! CF

i like "baby learns to crawl" but i don't think it belongs at the start of the album. stereo is hard one to kick off, though. i think i would pick "only lie worth telling" or "no place for you".

I didn't realize "Baby Learns To Crawl" was that unpopular. That and "It's a Wonderful Lie" are fine opening songs that set up their respective albums nicely.
I'll vote for "Jingle" as the worst opener.

Never liked Dirty Diesel, and I love CFMT. I always skip it, partially to get to Making Me Go, a far superior track.

A better poll may be worst second song, as more than one album has its momentum stopped by a song that would be better suited for later in the disc. "Self Defense" off Suicaine is a perfect example.

Follow up "Jingle" with Neil Young's "Piece of Crap" and you'll be cured of impulse buying for weeks- maybe months! Much as I like the effective and wonderfully sarcastic quality "Jingle" I had to vote for it because it did not set the tone for Folker at all. Now I'll probably catch hell for saying this, but if it weren't for "Jingle" I'd have voted for I.O.U. -- Prob'ly the tinnitus talking. Somebody just yelled, "Duck!"

This is a tough poll. I have to go with DD though - it's a skipper most days

Beyond Jingle it was all guesswork as to which opening tracks I could recall having detractors here over the years.

I laughed my ass off the first time I heard Jingle. It's gotten tired over time, but my vote is for Dirty Diesel. I also agree that 'Self Defense' is an absolute buzz kill and I skip it nearly every time I listen to SG.

I listed what I felt was the weakest song overall, but I like every one of these songs, including jingle.
I'll admit to disliking baby learns to crawl at first, but one rainy day driving to work it just hit me and I've loved it ever since.

I used to feel the same way about "bookmark" until i heard ted hoogland's awesome cover.

Really, "Jingle"?? I love it. I think it's a great opener, and would make a perfect commercial. I voted for "Ghost On The Canvas".
