Don't the Beatles crop up more than any other band in the Replacements catalog?
Heard "Oh Darling" the other day ... had forgotten exactly which song Mr. Whirly was stolen from.

"I've got blisters...I've got blisters on my balls."
I think the guitar solo in "Happy Town" copped a lick or two from "You're Gonna Lose That Girl."

And then there is Paul's solo cover of Nowhere Man, the snippet of Hello Goodbye in 49:00 and a nice 'fuck you' revisit of Oh Darling at the end of 5:05 While the Beatles definitely pop up a lot cover-wise, I think the music itself is a lot more reminiscent of the Stones and Keith Richards specifically--although there is a lot of Bob Dylan evident as well. It's funny to think that besides the Kiss cover, the other covers they did were masked in title, lyrics or both (Like a Rolling Pin, Mr. Whirly). Oh, and while we're at it, I think the Song As far as I Know channels the Monkees beautiful--which shows another influence (his cover of Daydream Believer, and a Mike Nesmith song too although the name escapes me). I also think it's funny that he covered Wreckless Eric's I'd go the whole wide world, which was also covered by the Monkees on pool it. Alright, I'm going to stop before I give myself a headache!

We're going to have to arm wrestle. AFAIK is more of a Big Star homage-- "I'm in love with a girl" The monkees and Big Star were both results of 'mericans dealing with the British invasion.

"I've got blisters...I've got blisters on my balls." That's funny! I never got that, I always heard 'I've got blisters on my palms'.

I definitely think there is a huge big star influence as well. While AFAIK lyrically resembles Big Star, to me at least the actual tempo and energy of the song reminds me a lot of the Monkees. But yeah, I definitely think it could go either way.

You know what bugs me though is how The Beatles completely ignored The 'Mats. The bastards! ... ;D
