Not why you think they should or shouldn't,but why they themselves haven't? And by The Replacements I mean Paul and Tommy.(Although I wish Chris and Slim would be a part of it.I'm sure Bob would be there in spirit.) Does anybody care to speculate exactly why?

This is from an article dated 22 August 2003:
Thankfully, Stinson has nothing but kind words to say about the 'Mats' legacy on the phone, although he's quick to affirm that repeated reunion rumors are completely false. "I've never really been a strong proponent of bands reuniting," says Stinson. "I'm in favor of bands like the Clash who knew when to call it a day and never re-formed, the idea of having to see a band like them or see the Replacements trying to relive a moment . . . there's just nothing really sexy about that for me. You know for a little while I think we really had it, we captured lightning in a bottle, and you can never get back to that again."

Critic Sasha Frere Jones at the New Yorker blog: The Replacements (2) I saw them three or four times in Providence. I think this band needs the original lineup and the original moment. (Bob Stinson died, so the original line-up is not available.) There were two forces driving The Replacements: a singer-songwriter with a traditional bent and a classically harsh/pretty rock voice that prefigured Kurt Cobain a little (Paul Westerberg) and a band that played between drunken and obliterated (Westerberg and everybody else in the band). Watching them skirt entropy and then snap back into place was a thrill. We’ve got plenty of drunken bands; drunken bands with songs are less common. Any new version of the band would, by definition, be more organized, though I wouldn’t turn down a chance to hear Westerberg play these songs again. There must be some young drunks available.

I think if Chris wanted it, Paul & Tommy would do it.

Bob's gone, it would be Replacements in name only. PTMM was prepared with Bob in kind, so even w/o him it kind of gets a pass. The rest weren't and it shows. As much as i love Achin to Be, Merry Go Round, You Be Me,etc.,it wasn't really the Replacements w/o Bob, even at the time. Good for Paul, Tommy and Chris for not cashing in on the name.
