Any opinions on your favorite Mats/PW live shows? Are there holy grail shows from different tours?(Audio or video).
I've been listening to live Velvet Underground,Television,Modern Lovers lately.Guess I'm bored of studio recordings at the moment.
I used to have the Mats 1986 Cabaret Metro show.I don't know if the tape was sped up or what but they tore through that set at a manic pace from what I remember.

Always been a fan of the Ritz show. I also have a Petty opener that was a radio broadcast that's always been a fave. Did you nab the 7th St. show from archive.org? That's been in rotation here lately too.

My favorite Paul boots are "A Lot of Songs, Not For Sale (Live at the Troubador)" and "Live at Fantasy Studios". Both performances are amazing and the sound quality is great. The version of Stain Yer Blood on the Fantasy Studios boot is easily one of my favorite live Paul recordings ever. Right up there with Answering Machine on Inconcerated.
For Mats boots, "Live at Maxwell's" is probably me favorite. It showcases how incredible Bob's playing was, and Paul's repeated screams of "MURDER!!!" in nearly every song are strangely enjoyable. I also love "Live at Fitzgerald's, Houston, TX, 8.1.83," if only for the gorgeously slowed down version of Color Me Impressed. And speaking of gorgeously slowed down, there's an amazing late-era show from Amsterdam (which I've only seen on videotape) that has a great slow version of Nevermind. That whole show is great, but I lost that video years ago.

Live at Lingerie was the first live Mats show I heard so that one has always been a sentimental fave. The Maxwells show is such a great combination of performance & quaility recording.I think Pauls voice sounded really cool in that post hardcore,pre-Bob firing, anthemic era of the Mats.I've been digging that 7th St. Entry show from archive.org.

I know someone slapped a name on this, but I don't have it (the cd) with me at the moment, obviously, but I've always liked the '82 solo show. Paul is charmingly nervous, and had a fairly prominent accent back then. Not that I've heard his speaking voice that much.
The Maxwell's show is another fav.

More info here: www.theskyway.com/collecting.htmlIt's a show from Rotterdam (not Amsterdam, like I wrote above) on 4/10/91. The write-up at the link above makes the show sound awful, but I loved it. For instance, the version of Nevermind that I thought of as gorgeously slowed down, is called "dirge-like" in the article. It's been a long time since I've seen it, but I still remember the amazing call-and-response chorus, with Paul and Tommy howling, "Nevermind," back and forth at each other. It sounded amazing. Anyway, he does confirm that they played "One Man Guy."

Wow. Thanks for posting that, it's one of my favorite songs ever. I'd love to hear Paul do a full cover version of it.
Of course at this point, I'd love to hear Paul do *anything*.

Tommy, singing off-camera but not off key in the Mats version above, was still doing "One My Guy" solo as of a 2006:
