good call. maybe paul a good compromise would be to capture a live band performance of these songs. but i'm guessing that the recording process overlaps with the writing process with paul, so maybe something would still be lost.

I could care less who he has on drums be it Neil Peart or a monkee beatin on pots and pans. I want him to find the crazy out of control lead guitar player that made the first 5 Replacements discs scream off the needle!!!!! ( question is,"was Bob a one and only"?)
I love Paul's singer songwriter stuff, but he always shined for me on the "going off the rails, driving with your feet" rockers.

It would help if he had someone play drums to help him drive the song or add other nuances with well timed drum fills or cymbal crash at the right moment to accent the song. That's what I want too, free rider, everything else played (and sung) by PW is fine with me, but the drum touches really help a song get up and down.

that seems to be the case pm. westy has said that what makes him tick is the creation of it not the recreation of it. i think with the basement stuff he basically wants to catch himself in the act of creation. don was talks about this process in the "seeing through paul" piece on youtube.
