There is no buy option and the price indicates "not available". Anyone else see that?

Ditto.
If you search for Paul, it doesn't even show up. Only way I found it was b/c Amazon showed me my recent purchases somewhere toward the bottom of the page, and then under price it says "not available."
Perhaps we own a "limited edition"?

Strange. Even if you go to the top selling downloads, 40:00 is still #1 for albums (ahead of Death Cab for Cutie), but when you click on the link from there, it still says "unavailable". Maybe they are going to up the price? $4.90

Argh!! I haven't downloaded it and was going to do it yesterday but it's still listed as 'Not Available'. I've tried emailing Amazon to find out what's up. I'm not anticipating a straight answer but whatever response I get I'll post here.

One of the pages listed as "out of stock" rather than "unavailable." WTF?
Glad I downloaded it last Monday morning.

Welcome to the club Nevermind. Here's the 'response' I got from Amazon: Hello from Amazon.com. Thanks for asking if we sell "49:00" by Paul Westerberg in digital format. I've checked our catalog, and we do not currently sell this particular item in the Amazon MP3 Music Downloads store. While we do carry music by this artist, Amazon MP3 does not yet offer the complete catalog. Differences may occur between older and more recent offerings depending on which record companies own the rights to the music. Our ability to offer music to you in MP3 format is limited by the rights granted to us by the record companies. Differences may occur between the offerings in our MP3 Music Download store and physical CDs we sell on Amazon.com depending on the digital rights that are available. We are always working to improve the selection of our MP3 Music Download store and will offer complete albums or individual songs for purchase and download whenever possible. Even more strange is that no one can figure out how to download this as of yesterday, but it still the #4 downloaded album of the day!!!!
There goes my faith in how amazon tracks their sales.

I nagged Amazon a little more and got this response:
Greetings from Amazon.com Thank you for asking about the availability of Paul Westerberg album, "49:00". This album was available for a limited time at the price of $0.49. This album has since been removed from our site. We have no information at this time if the album will be made available again in the future. We recommend checking back from time to time to see if the availability changes on the product detail page. I hope this information was helpful, and thank you again for your interest in Amazon Mp3 Music Downloads.
Looks like those of us who procrastinated are out of luck...

That's too bad, GGG. I'll be glad to burn you a copy. Let me know ... I'm local.
As for Amazon/Tunecore, the question is whether PW or Darren pulled the plug for some reason, or whether the download services weren't enjoying the publicity and possible precedent with PW's one-track, 44-minute "song"

Copies of the "Classic" 49:00 are now skyrocketing in value in the secondary market. Vintage bits in verifiable "virgin-download" condition fetch the highest prices.

I guess we can only speculate at what happened.. But. I draw the same conclusion as you... The 49 cent full-length, one track album concept must have been ahead of its time and needed to be retooled.. CF

I'm guessing the places pulled the plug on the album (stupid, even after the press it got.) I think that if it was initially intended to be a limited download, we would have been notified.
Who puts out a limited album without telling anyone it's limited? Uh, no one.

Who puts out a limited album without telling anyone it's limited? Uh, no one. Actually, I would expect this from Grandpaboy. He obviously wasn't looking to make $ on this thing. Even if 50,000 people downloaded, which I doubt that many did, that is $24,000. I bet Amazon was keeping a good portion of that. At least half. That leaves $12,000. Give 20% of that to Darren. Less than 10k for Paul. Why not make it limited and not tell anyone it was limited. Everyone paying attention likely got it, those not paying attention likely don't deserve to have it. Most of the stuff will probably eventually be released in a more traditional format anyway. This was a 49 cent gift to the fans, not a money making venture. If he picked up a few fans along the way, so be it.

My bet is that Amazon didn't like being paid so little for so much bandwidth.
Hopefully this will hasten a CD release in full quality (rather than the 256 kbps of the download).

My bet is that Amazon didn't like being paid so little for so much bandwidth. I doubt it. We should take a poll of PW fans here who downloaded from Amazon yet never used Amazon as a download service before. The bandwidth is trivial compared to the potential for new customers. This had to be a behind the scenes thing with PW and Darren. It is the only thing that makes sense. And I ain't blaming them for it. This release was a gift.

Even if 50,000 people downloaded, which I doubt that many did, that is $24,000. Well, according to Soundscan, it didn't even get 1,700 downloads. Considering that the first four Mats reissues have only sold 22,000 combined as of July 17, I think we're talking about some pretty low numbers for 49:00. And if Amazon just pulled the thing, then more people will end up hearing it through sharing than through buying.
