Without revealing specifics, Hill says "49" is "just the tip of a really large creative iceberg. Paul has been writing and recording at a furious pace." However, he adds that "there are no plans or talk of doing any performances at the moment." I've decided to take that bit to mean that there is going to be a more traditional album soon.

First time I've heard Something in my life is missing. Country rock Paul is good sh_t. Devil raised a good boy screams. I love that he still plays like that.

Johnny Said So (2:09) This appears to be an unofficial track list that somebody put together over on PaulWesterberg.net... However, it is useful to have it since there is no tracklisting included with the artwork. CF

Hopefully they'll correct that Paste article: "With track titles like 'Six Seconds of Stuff' and 'Squeaky Obscene,' Westerberg seems to be letting the creative juices flow on this one." Except that those titles were made up by some guy on paulwesterberg.net.

I thought PW had Paul Simon influences so it was kinda cool to hear I am a rock in the montage of covers. I also like the Alice Cooper tossed in there. An album of just covers would be way cool.

I'm through this three times now and I have to say that I'm completely in love with it. Yes, it's sometimes a frustrating listen, especially when what seems to be a fantastic song is cut off after just a few seconds...or that section where two songs are playing at once. But that's just part of the trip he's taking us over the almost 44 minutes of music.
I particularly like the covers section, including the Partridge Family cover. Just the other day, while listening to the DeFranco Family song on the Let It Be remaster I was thinking about how great it would have been if they had made an album of cheesy yet revved up covers. Now I wish Paul would do that, and include not only full-lengths of what's on here but others he performed on that last tour ("Live Forever", etc.).

Agreed. "Visitors Day." Now that I've had chance to listen to it, some of those guessed titles are way off.

I love "Visitor's Day", the first 4 times I heard it, I was convinced it was "New Year's Day" even though it made no sense but I finally got it. One of my favorite parts of the album.

Loving this. Too bad one of the other songs overlaps.

sometimes sounds like "Terry who you gonna marry?" then "tell me who you gonna marry".
"whatever the weather i'll be walkin..."
"i took 2 hits myself and held his hand..."
"whether you're famous or nameless you never go dancing in the street"
"like a pine among the oaks shoots up high until it chokes"
paul is an artist. all the other wannabes should just hang it up. he's king.

Except that those titles were made up by some guy on paulwesterberg.net. I am fairly confident that the song listed as "Squeaky Obscene" is really titled "I'm Clean." "Back to Saturn X Radio Report II" is a complete fabrication, and "Johnny Said so" is a wild guess based on the assumption that Paul's son can be heard. Other's have noted that "Mother's Day" is most likely "Visitor's Day".... CF

For those who don't know, "Back To Saturn X Radio Report II" is a Guided by Voices reference. They have a tune called "Back to Saturn X Radio Report." So, yeah, some web wag made that up. No way Paul would reference GBV...

finally had my first run at listening to it....it's amazing. The overlaps, the songs bleeding thru from other tracks tells me he isn't kidding when he says that he's got so much music coming out of him that he's re-recording over songs. Somebody buy the man some more DAT tape!!!!
And then again, I'm thinking, "god, this is the perfect glimpse of Paul at work in the basement". Unfinished song ideas, snippets here and there. It's like looking at Da Vinci's sketch pads or something.

Just listened for the first time. I'm loving it and the only irritant are those damned 20 second songs that sound incredible and then end.
It definitely has a mixtape feel. In fact, it seems very similar to mixtapes that rappers put out before official releases with full tracks, un-used tracks, snippets, etc.
Don't know if this is a precursor to a legit release or if it's just Paul being Paul, but i'll take it either way.

Damn, my favorites are the snippets. Wonderful and frustrating. My two favorites that I wish were full songs:
33:22 - 33:34 "They miss her back down on the farm/and the money goes straight in her arm."
21:02 - 21:20 "What do you want?"
