Your point being?? ;D Hint: Next time you might want to include words in your post. You know, they make you look less smug and such. Sorry, didn't see your post; honest mistake. Just don't be smug--words are our friends...

Can anyone from the Chicago area(or not) give me some recommendations on hotels in the area of the Riviera? How's the neighborhood? Should I bring my nunchucks?

I second that emotion. Mapquest and hotels.com are not helping in this regard. Please give up the goods. I live about 65 miles west of the city so am not much help but O'hare airport is not far from the Riviera relatively speaking and there's lots of accomodations in that area. Stay close to I90 or even I294. But if anyone has better ideas, bring em on.

I've read that its a rather seedy area. Recommendations were not to walk alone. I've found that the closest hotel is the Darlington Hotel but there isn't a site with rate information or reservation stuff but I'll probably call and find out.

Yes, a friend of mine who lives down there (about three blks. from Wrigley) said, "You don't want to stay by the Riviera, that's a bad part of town." Then a member of the bored told me, "The Riviera? That neighborhood is one of my favorite places to stay in Chicago!" So yeah, somebody please clear this up.

And now I so very much want to go and not get seriously hurt.
Well, I can always work that "witch" angle...

I live in Chicago...As for Hotels... I don't know of any in the direct vicinity of the Riviera, but I would suggest the Days Inn in Lincoln Park on Diversey Ave.. It is a good neighborhood to stay in and a 10 minute cab ride to the Riv. It used to be known as the Rock-n-roll hotel because it catered to the many bands that would come through town.
Since I saw CFMT ....I have wondered if it may be the hotel of the infamous Paul/Kurt Cobain elevator ride. They played Chicago the same night back in the mid 90's.. Paul at the Riv and Nirvana across the street at the Aragon Ballroom.

Well EM, here in NYC there's neighborhoods I would be okay going into and being there, but then again I live here. Those same places I would not tell people from out of town to stay in. Locals will spot you as if you were dodo birds walking down an Audobon convention... Man, where the f*ck did that simile come from?! I really should get some fresh air... Anyway, I think that's what was going on with the conflicting opinions about Chicago. But I've never been there, so I dunno...

Zook for sure, mealticket from the dark side (maybe) GtrPlyr (probably) I'm mulling it over. Someone responsible needs to hold the bail money.

This could be one hell of a party. We should all try for the same hotel. The Days Inn sounds cool. Otherwise something on the el so we wouldn't even have to cab it. I'm not too afraid of neighborhoods and I'm sure the crew that we'll have going could hold their own in the seedy underbelly of Chicago
