I love 14 songs but its the only Paul record I feel goes downhill a bit in the second half. The first six songs are one of the strongest run of tracks on any Westerberg disc but the second half or so is more mixed. 'Things' and 'Black Eyed Susan' are, of course, classics and I'm rather partial to 'Down Love' too. Nor are 'Silver Naked Ladies', 'A Few Minutes', 'Someone I Once Knew' and 'Mannequin Shop' necessarily weak songs - they're fine within the field they're aimed at, just not exactly all-time Paul classics. But they also suffer bit from being too close together to one another on the track listing (contrast this with 'Lay It Down Clown' and 'Dose of Thunder' on Tim - both sound great being sandwiched between out and out classics).
But, if you could change the running order, how would you sequence the 14 Songs album? As a bonus, you can exchange two tracks on the official album for the glorious 'Seein Her' and 'Men Without Ties' and also opt for the festicle version of 'Dice' over the official album cut, if you're that way inclined. Just as long as it remains 14 Songs!
Here's mine - designed to work as both a CD and vinyl LP (So Runaway Wind would open side 2):
1. Knockin On Mine 2. Seein Her 3. First Glimmer 4. Something Is Me 5. World Class Fad 6. Things 7. Someone I Once Knew 8. Runaway Wind 9. Dice Behind Your Shades (normal album version) 10. Even Here We Are 11. Silver Naked Ladies 12. Black Eyed Susan 13. Down Love 14. Men Without Ties

I always thought '14 Songs' would make a great ep, but as an album it's a bit weak. I opt to edit it down to this order, these are the songs I really like:
1. First Glimmer 2. World Class Fad 3. Even Here We Are 4. Knockin' On Mine 5. Runaway Wind 6. Men Without Ties 7. Black Eyed Susan 8. Things
