Random reasons that Eventually rules.
1. These are the days - 'I am the day no one needs, they'll never come another one like me' Says it all. This song is the missing link between latter day Mats and the early Paul solo records IMO.
2. These are the days - 'He sat up on a rock and said what's my name, it ain't tomorrow, ain't it yesterday.........'
3. And the handclaps that come in the middle of that line - bonus marks!!
4. The finger click that introduces 'My Century'
5. My Century - The descending guitar line that accompanies the chorus
6. My Century - 'Behind my eyes I've seen it all, years go past upon the wall'
7. 'AND I CAAAN'T GO BAAAAAACK, ITS MY LAAAAAAAAAAAAST CHAAAAAAAAAAAANCE'!
8. Love Untold - The way Paul's voice breaks as he sings the song's title. Just to make it even sadder.
9. Love Untold - The way he changes it at the very end to 'WE were gonna meet'.
10. Ain't Got Me - Laurie Lindeen's vocals. Well, I like a little caramel syrup in my coffee!
11. Ain't Got Me - The piano!!! Paul should get out the piano more often.
12. Ain't Got Me - 'GIVE ME TAMBOURINES, A PAIR OF SHAKING HIPS'
13. You've had it with you - The way Paul kicks it off in that classic ramshackle way of his and gets it going with a 'c'mon'.
14. You've had it with you - The way he sings 'You HAAAAAAAADDDDDD it with your neighbours' at the end.............
15. '...........And you had it with me too' - WHAM. Brilliant ending.
16. Mama daddy did - 'Decided not to have any regrets, thats as good as it gets'
17. Hide n' seeking - 'Hide and seeking for children......baby'
18. Hide n' seeking - the conceitful pause so close to the start. Crafty
19. Hide n' seeking - 'Black night is falling, these are the blues you see' - now that is PURE GENIUS.
20. Hide n' seeking - More generally, this song really evokes Merry Go Round. Not just in the 'kids at play' title either - the 'they never you found you as a kid' lyric would have slotted into MGR perfectly.
21. Once around the weekend - the gloriously wasted and spent emotions Paul evokes when he sings 'I watch myself fall apart.......'
22. .......And the beautiful piano that follows it.
23. Trumpet Clip - The bit when Paul cracks up laughing when singing.
24. The last round of 'FAST JUMP's where everything gets cranked up to eleven.
25. Angels Walk - the guitar! It sounds so beautifully, warm, yellow and hazy. And that HUM that cuts through the whole song. Paul is such a good guitar player.
26. Good Day - its for Bob. C'mon!
27. Good Day - 'sing along, HOLD MY LIFE'
28. Good Day - 'these are the days': Paul takes the record full circle (just about)
29. Time flies tomorrow - the first chord. I always think it sounds like the start of Here Comes a Regular
30. Time flies tomorrow - the sludgy electric guitar. Throws a little grit into an otherwise gorgeously lush song.
