They're sexual to any guy that's ever set foot in a high school locker room.
Put a bunch of those guys together and anything can be sexual.

"Open wiiiiiiiiide enough....to drive a truck straight through." I'm not a prude, but that line kind of kills the song for me.

"Open wiiiiiiiiide enough....to drive a truck straight through." I'm not a prude, but that line kind of kills the song for me. I try not to think of it that way. It helps to focus on the weird overlapping simile/metaphor the third time the line comes around: "Open wide enough/To drive a truck straight, like a knife" Edit: not sure that does help.

Sex with a Goat, anybody? What the hell song is that? The Replacements LIVE IN MADISON Recorded live at Merlyn's in Madison, Wisconsin on October 31, 1982. Recorded in the period between Stink and Hootenanny, this show displays the Mats starting to loosen up from the tighter loud-fast sound of their early years. "Rock Around the Clock" is the forerunner of the goofy covers that would come to dominate many of their shows in 84-85. "Sex with a Goat" (also known as "Shoot Me, Kill Me") is an unreleased Westerberg song that was recorded during the Hootenanny sessions (with different lyrics) but was never released. Disc One: 1. Kids Don't Follow 2. I Wanna Be Loved 3. Kick Your Door Down 4. Take Me Down to the Hospital 5. Rock Around the Clock 6. Color Me Impressed 7. Fuck School 8. Shoot Me, Kill Me 9. Run it 10. Takin' a Ride 11. Ain't No Crime 12. Otto 13. Johnny's Gonna Die 14. Slow Down 15. Willpower 16. Punk Poop (aka 1977) Disc Two: 1. You Lose 2. Lookin' for Ya 3. Mr. Whirly 4. My Town 5. Staples in Her Stomach 6. Ace of Spades 7. Don't Ask Why 8. Stuck in the Middle 9. God Damn Job 10. I'm in Trouble 11. Hangin' Downtown 12. Love You Til Friday 13. I Hate Music 14. Gimme Noise 15. Substitute 16. Trouble Boys 17. Customer 18. Color Me Impressed SOUND QUALITY: This is a mono PA-feed recording, meaning the sound quality is good but the guitars are a bit too quiet in the mix, compared to the bass and drums. Sound quality is a 6 on a 1-10 scale. [Above text politely lifted from the Foshay Tower Web site at www.22designs.com/foshaytower2/]

Message to the Boys? Who are the "boys"? When I first heard the sample I was thinking it was a gal pal telling and showing the guy pals that she was NOT just one of the boys. However, someone more astute than I figured that the "boys" are a reference to those two things that hang below the "little man". And that seeing her was sending a different sort of message to the boys...one that said "why don't you come up and see me some time". I much prefer this take on the lyrics.

"Through the top of the porch, trough the top of the wall"
I'm not a native speaker of English, but the sexual connotation in that phrase looks strong to me. Hopefully, it's not just an American saying.

"Purple mascara, safety pins, God did it hurt"
Surprised no one mentioned this one before; one of Paul's most clever double entendres, with the safety pin analogous to the loss of virginity--the "spreading of the legs," so to speak, visually.
Also a nice reference to the punk era. Good job, Paulie!
