What song do you think embodies what PW is about and will best represents his legacy?
My vote is for his most emotional, gut wrenching suicide song Crackle and Drag. My favorite version is the punked up version. Maybe all 3 versions sums up is legacy or if I had pick one, the punked up version is just incredible.

I would have to go with maybe, "Unsatisfied" I think that one stands out for me. For Paul solo, maybe "We may be the One's"

Unsatisfied is the defining song for The Replacements.

I don't necessarily disagree, but since Paul seemed so ... unsatisfied with that song on the recent tour, at least lyricswise, I'm looking somewhere else for the legacy song.
I think he stands or falls with "Lay It Down Clown."

I can't really go with Unsatisfied just because Paul has said he was kind of faking it on that one. I would go with "I Will Dare." If there's a phrase that sums up Paul's career I think that's it.

Bastard's of Young
It did a great job of summing up the frustrations of a generation, and was from a point in time (Tim/PTMM era) when they seemed to have a great deal of influence.

i agree that B.O.Y is the song that best represents what the Replacements were/are.
I say Wonderful Lie is the Paul song that best represents him.
(i just forgot the words to this song!)

What song do you think embodies what PW is about . For the first part of the question: "Best Thing That Never Happened"

I'll go with "Can't Hardly Wait" The urgency of the song, the title, the break in there, the hook.
It sounds like he really means it on this one.

A Regular? When he first (I think) let it out that being a loud mouthed drunk ain't all there is.

'Left of the Dial'
To put away sarcasm for a moment: I grew up being fed mostly by the local top forty station and happily eating it up. Most of my other favorite songs and bands made Def Leppard look like Motzart. Ten years ago I stumbled upon Paul and the Mats, and I'm sooo glad I did. As the years pass, the very small part that music plays in life matters a little more. This is great music . . .
must . . . return . . . to sarcasm
. . . FOR ME TO POOP ON!!!!!!!!!!

"Can't Hardly Wait". "Unsatisfied" is his best but "Can't Hardly Wait" best reps the legacy imo.

While this may not be the best song (though it's pretty damn close), it really has all the best qualities of Paul's talent and captures the spirit of the Mats - at least for me.

I love the version of "Can't Hardly Wait" (and Knockin' On Mine) that he performed on SNL. He seemed to be really into it, and the band was surprisingly rocking. Maybe, he should dig those guys up again, for his next tour.
