Screw producers...make your basement album, give it to your band of choice (like Michael Bland, Kevin Bowe, and Jim Boquist), let them rehearse the songs on their own, get some cheap local studio time, hire a cheap local engineer, knock em out in 1 or 2 takes...VOILA! great songs, better production, and not over-produced or expensive. Just an idea.... May do the trick.

Folker hasn't left my car stereo since I bought it (with the exception of bringing it inside on occasion to listen to when not driving).
I don't think Paul should leave the basement. Its what makes him Paul. Keep doing what you're doing, I love every minute of it.

It's sort of somewhere between a stereo and headphones. Unfortunately it involves burning oil.

I hear you, there's almost nothing better then singing along to some great tunes in your car while on a road trip (or just driving to work, I'm sure I get caught singing every time I drive).
But I think my favorite mode for listening to Paul or the Mats is in my headphones walking around MPLS. Just stepping out my door with any Mats CD playing is a great feeling.

I should write this under a new or different thread. The subject line is clearly not appropriate. Anyway, I'm getting convinced the songwriting on Folker is as good as Suicaine, which I like a lot. I'd just prefer different mixing/drumming/whatever.

Too true, but also to quote the Elliot Smith song "..he told me Whiskey works better than beer." Which I also think is true.

well i'd like to say it's not awful , it's just more stories about his life ,so whats wrong with that , this is why we love this man,and his music.

I hereby apologize for jumping on the "Folker is Awful" bandwagon months ago.
I love it now. Caught 3 Paul shows - Anaheim, Dallas and Austin - in the past month and am reminded what a captivating performer he is. These songs come alive in person, not that they're not good on CD. I changed my mind and started to love Folker before I saw the live shows this month. What a personal and capitivating album.
And it's always fun meeting other Paul fans on the road. Hope to catch at least one more show on this tour.
Anyway, I hope others who hated it can come around too. -Laura

I've always liked the album for some reason. However, I find it's best played in a car really loud.

I also first heard Folker on the car stereo. I was a bit distracted because we were on our way to see Nick Lowe and I was in an early Nick 'Cruel to be Kind' mindset, but I loved it anyway.

It took me f-o-r-e-v-e-r to get into this record, but now that I did, I listen to it way too much. It's been stuck in the CD player for a coupla months now.
Dunno what it is. It's a sleeper. A creeper. Whatever the hell...
