pline, good point. as someone who's in Paul's age bracket, I'm definitely in step with his viewpoints too and it becomes more relevant as time marches on. I had similar experiences with my father dying as well, so that stuff rings true. He's really writing about universal experiences. If you hadn't had them, then at some point you will. And I think Folker will certainly become germane and a sort of blueprint or marker for that particular stage in your life. I dig Folker. Well said. I guess we are just lucky enough to have someone as uh ... okay, "artistic" as Paul to grow old with. I think I understand my older brother-in-law's love for and life-long following of Dylan now and see Paul as my Dylan. I still love the Mats stuff as much as I ever did (actually more) but isn't the excitement of looking forward to his next album one of the greatest joys in life? And I hope I didn't offend any younger fans - I know that there are many intelligent ones who appreciate Folker and will probably find relevant to their lives(as you said) at some point.

um, if it's an age thing then why do I at 27, like Folker so much and also from the first listen. Same with Suicaine, except I was 21 when that one came out.

Sorry, I'm sometimes not very good with writing and putting together a cogent argument . I know there are many younger fans that love Folker and I am glad that you are one. It was just a theory - which is oftentimes disproved. I just thought that if you did some kind of age bell curve of fans who love Folker that you would find the peak to be between 35 and 50. Like most people, I don't like being nor do I intend to label people. And I certainly don't want to come across as having a special understanding/appreciation of the album because of my age because I know that is ridiculous.

I heard the most kick-ass version of Let The Bad Times Roll at the Milwaukee show. I love it on the album but this version left me in awe. The band was tight and this version brought new life to a tune that didnt need new life. Not sure where Im going but man, MBland and this band bring a lot to songs that didnt need help but really come to life with a full band. Great show.

i'll toss it out there, and see what reaction i can get. i'm into learning more songs, but i don't think paul wants to add any more songs from the new album. we've already learned and thrown out "$100 groom", and "folkstar" has become somewhat confusing to play.... don't know why. plus, "my dad" was getting butchered 'cause there are alot of words to it. michaelb Darn on "Folk Star" cause it was great in MPLS. "Breathe Some New Life", I love but I'm not sure it would go over live...it's like an exposed nerve it's so raw, emotionally. (by the way, it's funny how it's just become universally accepted that the song is "Now I Wonder" when it's actually called "When Will We Arrive?". And in my little world, "Anyway's All Right" is called "Pretty Flower Bedroom".)

Now if only I could have been at the show. I guess I'll have to wait, and hope that a boot turns up for this show.

it was called When Will We Arrive? on the advance CD. other earlier song titles were New Life and Any Way It's All Right.

Ran across this....painful for those of us that think Buffet has nothing to do with RnR.

Amen brother. Well, except for the cult of Sammy Hagar and Cobo Wobo or whatever that is.

i think paul made the right move by doing something "different." i am a musician, and all i can say is that it gets aweful boring sounding the same. i think that songs like "gunshy" and "folk star" however, sound like some of pauls older songs. "as far as i know" is good too. all and all i think that folker is an awesome record but then again, isn't every record of his?

a few years late here, but honestly, i never thought people had such mixed emotions about this album. After listening to CFMT and Stereo/Mono all the time i was prepared for something new. It's not as good as those albums, but still damn good. "Now I Wonder", "$100 Groom" and "As Far As I Know", "Breathe Some New Life" . . all damn good.

Shades of Suicaine is right on, kgp. If this board is up in five years, I bet people will still be debating whether this was the best or worst ever. Accurate.

Man, some of you folks are really hard on the guy. I like the CD, and yeah, some of it had to grow on me. But I think that by now you should know what you're getting into when you buy his CD's. Okay, maybe it isn't the most lyrically engaging stuff he's put out. But, jeez, give the guy some slack....otherwise he might be bound for the basement, never to be heard from again for another five years. Another five year prediction comes true
