To the extent that Paul was at the wheel in the Mats, what band was the mostest role model for where he trying to steer the Mats?

I think Folker needs to come out real soon, so torethatbridgeout can come up with some new topics. Didn't we do this one not too long ago?

I must have missed that thread. Did you reach a consensus? I was looking for: - one band only. - how you know paul dug them. - what about mats shows he was thinking of your one band the most. If you can give me that, I'll go knock on his door and ask for the Folker demos right now.

I must have missed that thread. Did you reach a consensus? I thought it was your thread. Didn't you say the Kinks? I think my answer was that I doubted Paul modeled the Mats after anyone. He may have modeled his hair after Keith Richards and Rod Stewart, and he may have stolen a few poses from Keith and Johnny Thunders, but the Mats were too much the sum of their parts. Even if Paul was a calculating Svengali, there's no way he could have modeled the band after anyone, even if he tried.

Yes grasshopper, now that you have snatched the stones from my hand you are ready to leave the temple! Smartest thing I have read on the board all day!

OK, I'll drop it, and I won't start a thread like this again, at least not on this cottonpickin board. But I don't think it was me who said the Kinks, cause I don't know enough about em, except I see the brothers parallel I guess I see.
My lurking hidden agenda theory, this time around at least, was that Paul, being into rock and Svengali enough to worm his way into leadsinging leadership of the band, brought along some preconceived or even unconscious ideas of what a rock band ought to be like. At least in Paul's subconscious, I'm guessing there was one band above others that he had in mind or at the back of his mind at the beginning of the Mats. That subcouscious role model band may have changed as the Mats evolved. Probably drawn from the ranks of the bands we know he liked: Faces, Stones, Monkees, Raspberries, Only Ones, Big Star, or even bands the Mats covered, like on Shit Hits the Fans ... Alice Cooper, etc.
Had my say, I'll shut up.

Slade. At least after they fired Bob. It was all about Slade.
Before that it was probably somewhere between the NY Dolls and whatever would sell enough records that they could quit their real jobs.
