Does anyone know precisely what Amp is used in "Waiting for Somebody"? The guitar sounds like a Gibson Les Paul and I'm sure the amp is a Marshall but I wonder which model.. JCM 800 or something?
In general, does anyone knows which gear Paul usually use?

I have seen Paul play the following guitars. I read once that he doesn't really care what kind of guitar he uses. Just hand him one and let him go:
Gibson Les Paul Gibson Les Paul Jr. Gibson SG Gibson SG Jr. Gibson E-???The BB King Guitar. Can't remeber its name Fender Strat Fender Tele Fender Tele Thin Dan Armsrtong (The see through guitar) Rickenbacher (Not sure what the model is called)
I think his favorites are the Les Paul Jr.s That is the one type I have seen him use the most. As far as amps, you are probably right on the Marshalls. I wasn't paying attention at the time. I am sure Slim had Marshall. That is all I know. I am sure there are others way more informed than me on this matter.

Westerberg in the old days was strictly a gibson and marshall guy. 100 watt heads with 4/12 cabs. Guitars were Les paul Jr's, Specials, an es- 335, an a random Hamer single pick- up would make an appearance.
After Don't Tell a Soul (I didn't) he started using some Fenders and a Rick live. he kept his Marshall cabinets but for pre- amps would use Soldano heads and then pair them up with the Marshalls power section.
The Soldano head can be seen even in the CFMT DVD.
Stinson always used Ampeg SVT heads and 8/ 10 cabinets and early on was a Rick bass user, then switched over to Gibson basses, followed by Fender's late in the game.
Bob Stinson favored a Mesa Boogie Studio .22 amp live early on, and then graduated to marshall 4/12's.
Mars had an old set of Slingerland drums and then got a new black set of somethings after PTMM.
From the timing and the tone I would bet anything that the recording you mention was a humbucking pick up through a Soldano head.
Tommy Stinson swore by the "sansamp" and recorded all of Friday Night is Killing Me.." direct into the board via a sansamp and a Junior Les paul.

Mars had an old set of Slingerland drums and then got a new black set of somethings after PTMM. That reminds me of the Musician article where each band member was asked to list their equipment in a sidebar. When asked what kind of drums he played, Chris Mars just said, "black ones."
