Hi folks.. I'm a newbie on this site that I'm glad to have discovered, being a Paul Westerberg fan for almost a year now.. I first bought the album "STEREO" and totally fell under the spell of such splendid compostisions. I haven't been touched emotionally by someting else since. This is now one of my favourite albums of all times... By the way I'm a Frenchman from Paris who happens to live in Northern Ireland (Belfast) at the moment to teach the French language. Now my question to you is: Does Paul ever play in Europe so I might have a chance to see him playing live for the next tour? I love "Come feel me tremble" and can't wait to hear it for real in front of my eyes. Cheers. Emmanuel (a Frenchman who loves America )

That's a pretty good question- I'm in the republic of Ireland and have often wondered. I have occassionally searched google to check if he's played here in the last few yrs and I don't find any evidence, but I'm sure I read about him having played europe quite a bit (in the past at least). Good Question though yeh (I guess a european tour would be announced on this website or any other westerberg one even, that's how I keep confident I would'nt miss it) Welcome to the board too (I'm also a new user) Dave

Thanks Dave! Nice to find an Irishman in here! Which part of the Republic do you come from? Your country is marvellous even if for a Frenchguy there's really no place like home

Freedomfries - welcome to the board! I do not have an answer to your question I am afraid but I will give you some advice. Do not look at Elizabeth directly - avert her gaze, do not address her, do not engage in conversation, do not acknowledge her. Play possum and you will not get hurt. She is still upset that ALF was cancelled and will lash out on all newbies, French or otherwise. Good luck!
Back to your question about Paul and Europe - I would be very surprised if he played outside the states if only because he is not keen on touring and traveling. He seems to like his basement and the friendly environs of MPLS. I hope for your sake he does make it out there but I would be surprised if it were so.

Ok, I really messed it up now, deleting my messages- making yours impossible to understand elizabeth. I thought you'd be online to just remove yours at the same time (but you disconnected really quick, after replying)
My mistake about elizabeths funny find in freedomfries post everyone - I've just now deleted my messages so you can't see what I'm talking about
That itself really makes me look like a bastard now. dohhhh

I think the last time he played gigs in Europe was on the 14 songs tour in 1993.
It's about time Paul came back & played some more!!!!!!
Cheers,

I know that he came over to the UK in 1999 to promote "Suicaine Gratification" on the TV show "Later With Jools Holland" (there was footage on a website somewhere) but i don't think he did any gigs. He would be so welcome over here in the UK cos i'm sure Uncut magazine would probably sponsor the gigs!

Probably. He also has a strong following in Ulster where I live at the moment. There's a huge Punk/alternative/indie scene in here that often sounds like being influenced by bands such as the Mats.
Anyway I'd be ready to travel in order to see a PW concert.

Is it so incredible?
There are as many pro-americans in France as there are "anti"-americans.. However keep in mind that the vast majority of the population just doesn't give a F*uck about what's happening overseas and don't have an opinion on the subject.
Now I refer myself as a pro-american but that doesn't mean I agree with the late decisions taken by your country. I don't like Bush, but believe me, I hate Chirac even more. The guy is a thief that deserves to go to prison and I can't wait to see that happen once he'll get beaten at the next elections.
I first became interested in the English language by listening to British and American music. I wanted to understand the meaning of the songs I loved...
Then I decided I would dig further and went to the University where I studied American and British civilization & literature. I've been to the states a dozen times and still have friends there even after rift that's just been created between France and the US.
My father worked in Boston for 3 years.

I recomend this website for all those who are interested in cultural differences between the French and the Americans. It is done by an American woman married to a Frenchman and is very objective. I hope that will help those who don't have a clue on what France is all about, and for those who still consider us as their ennemy, I would say that you never know your ennemy too well. www.understandfrance.org/France/Intercultural.htmlenjoy.

Hey Freedom, sorry I haven't got back to you. I don't consider the French an enemy- an enemy is someone who provides a threat to you and the French are not that. But, I will say I don't think you have been a very good of a friend either, considering the American investment in blood(WW I, II), money (Marshall Plan) and protectection (Cold War) over the last hundred years. Frankly, it miffs us that you always seem to be more of an obstacle than an ally. I think, considering our sacrifices, there would be more good will toward the American people and American causes by your people. It's like you're jealous of our super-power status and intentionally try to be a thorn in our side at every turn.
Please explain why this preception I have is or isn't wrong.
What has he done that would land him in jail?
