We oughta be able to figure out what Folker's going to be like ahead of time, at least give it a shot. The evidence so far:
The album title: his comments suggest it's just for laughs. So probably not a folkie or all-acoustic album.
The "bomb" comment: praising Folker right when CFMT and DMS were coming out was odd. But he apparently thinks Folker is better than those two.
Song selection: If you assume he parceled out the songs to the different albums at more or less the same time, then there might some guiding philosophy to which songs appeared where.
Standout songs on CFMT/DMS: Maybe he thought "Crackle and Drag" "My Daydream" "What a Day" "Meet Me Down the Alley" wouldn't fit on Folker. That should tell you something, but I'm not sure what. He has another suicide song? Another Beatles lift?
Label: It's on Vagrant, so Rich is on board. Course he lets Paul do just about anything, except that all-covers album idea, and DMS was on another label. So I'm thinking Rich loves Folker, whatever that tells you.
Unreleased/semireleased stuff: "Lookin Up in Heaven" and "Outta My System" have appeared on comps. That leaves "As Far As I Know" off the S/M demos. I'm betting we'll see that one on Folker.
Production: "Lookin Up in Heaven" is one of the more produced of his recent tracks. So maybe the whole album isn't basement tracks, or not raw ones anyway.
OK that's my best Perry Mason, but some of you cats know more and can figure this out better.

The fact that he's considering using a band for the tour leads me to believe it's going to lean more heavily towards rockers than ballads. Actually, just the fact that he seems excited about touring makes me think it's going to be a rather upbeat album.

Nice job TTBO! Remind me to call you should I ever go to trial.
I think it will be a more polished effort but still all Paul. Perhaps someone to help him edit and maybe another musician or two makes an appearance but mostly all him. He will surprise us and not go low tech but stay away from overproduction. Actually all this is a load of crap as I have no idea what to expect from the man except that I'll like it and play it until my ears bleed.

You're ignoring a key piece of evidence: What Paul has told us about the album. He said in an interview that it was more along the lines of "First Glimmer", adding that there might be a few songs that were slower and maybe one or two that are faster. From that description, we can draw the conclusion that "Folker" isn't going to be a loud rock album. He's also said that the album opens with a one-minute tune that he's hoping will get picked up by commercial advertisers. He said it was his trump card. I'm not sure what to make of that statement, except that he must think it's pretty catchy. Finally, he claimed that there was no filler and that "Folker" is made up of the type of songs that the fans love, which is an odd thing to say considering that there is no general consensus among the fans.

Think he hired a good drummer?
Think he had anyone else in the room?

Didn't Paul say somewhere that it's already done and vagrant just wouldn't let him talk about it. correct me if i'm wrong though but i'm sure i read it somewhere.

Yeah, he's said it's done, but they could still slap on "Everything Goes Wrong" if that's what you're getting at. I wonder when the hell he recorded all this stuff. He said he recorded CFMT and DMS after coming home from the tour. So did he record Folker before or after that? The timeline seems really tight considering that he claimed Folker was in the can as early as last November.

If Everthing goes wrong is on folker then they HAVE to release the footage from the DVD as a video. It would be hilarious to see it on MTV middle finger on the nose and all.

this is the text to my email to vagrant:
"hey - release paul westerberg's new album, folker, now. got it, monkeysocks? if you can't do that, at least send me a copy, so that i can review it for myyyy... zine. so ok, i get that it is gonna get released when it is gonna get released, but i do have one request: make sure that "everything goes wrong" is on it. at least as a hidden track, but preferrably as a listed song. it was on the end of paul's dvd, and if it is not on folker someone should lose their job. that is all. make it so, number 1."
i don't expect a response.

IT is the wrap up footage at the end of the CFMT DVD, right after the credits. A great, catchy tune.

What? is everyone on this board so technologically inept that they cant record sound from a DVD? Everything goes wrong Rocks.... I had that thing burned to MP3 and on my Rio before I got to the second viewing of the DVD.... c'mon guys!!!! One of the best parts of being a PW fan is being able to track down those rare gems and capture them someplace with good sound quality.....

Ditto. Not only does an MP3 ripped from the DVD sound lousy, but the sound quality on the original DVD was terrible to begin with. We need this tune on a properly mastered CD.
