No, fair enough, what did'nt you understand? I'll go through a couple of things. In regards to 'Johnny's gonna die' (I'm sure you know what its really about, or widely known to be about etc) but what I mean't was that I've always felt the Johnny character is a guy who has an 'f as many girls as you can on friday' idealogy that paul has just simply named Johnny as it suits, relating to what we are often told about the traditional Johnny (he was a hot shot who satisfied the ladies)- all the guys idolised etc. Westereberg is saying that he dosen't idolise the classic Johnny character. (but of course, I'm probably wrong indeed) but yeh, you bet, I am cool Oh yeh, I was mean't to say a couple of things relating to my unreasonably long post (which I presume is what you are referring too) I don't disagree that its a pile of word salad at parts, yeh. I also don't doubt that it is widely not understood because of the fact that I'm not really the kind of guy who meets his mirror image much. (I'm sure plenty of my feelings are leaning more towards my own thoughts/issues on life and that's why I said I was gonna be naive to suggest they were all westerbergs) - they are sometimes, no doubt, just what I like to think I hear.

Hi Dave, I'm trying to hang in there with you on the Johnnys Gonna Die point but I think Paul had a guy named Johnny Thunders in mind for that song. He was a guy that sang in the early seventies band The New York Dolls and Paul really admired him.
I don't know much about him personally but I'm sure others can fill in the blanks for us. Maybe we should start a Johnnys gonna die thread eh?

I agree with Tom,I am thinkin its about Johnny Thunders,New York Dolls/Heartbreakers legend....a serious influence on Paul, but also a big junkie.

Having lived in Minneapolis since the very early 80's this topic demands an answer I am just not willing to divulge....yet!

Maybe we should start a Johnnys gonna die thread eh? Probably. Has anyone else ever penned a song quite like JGD? First album, a really dark, half-mocking, half-homage, pre-mortem fan letter. And there's your earliest in the vein of "Go" and "Within Your Reach." A real heartbreaker indeed.

Not to beat on the dead horse, but yeah, JGD was definitely about Thunders.
And Paul's got more than a hint of anger in several songs, but I think it has less to do with hating women and more to do with sometimes hating people as a whole (this is a man who basically lives in his basement these days).
