He used a 16-Track ADAT, though only 8-Tracks were working when he recorded the Folker record apparently.
I think he also uses a 60's model Fender tube amp for recording, as well as some Marshalls, a Soldano...
Guitars: Taylor 12-String Acoustic '72 Fender Telecaster Thinline Gibsons (ES-355, Les Paul, and a few other's I can't recall right now)
I'm sure some of the other more tech savvy people will be able to fill in the gaps.

Read somewhere that Paul's setup is somewhat spartan, but that he has plenty of tricks picked up over the years to get the most out of his studio. The sparse acoustic arrangements (i.e. Dirt to Mud) are straightforward enough, but the bigger electric songs are curious. Would love to know a few of his tricks, like how to get "As Far As I Know" on 8 tracks....

Would love to know a few of his tricks, like how to get "As Far As I Know" on 8 tracks.... Considering the Beatles did "Sgt. Peppers" on a 4-track, PW's 8-tracks seems quite extravagant, though compared to most studios--even home studios--it is a bit on the small side by todays standards. As for "As Far As I Know," there's really not a lot of instrumentation on the track so it probably wasn't that hard. Maybe something like this: Track 8 - Drums Track 7 - Drums (if he did them in stereo) or Keyboards Track 6 - Bass Track 5 - Electric Guitar 1 Track 4 - Electric Guitar 2 Track 3 - Tambourine Track 2 - Background Vocal Track 1 - Lead Vocal He might have bounced a few tracks down to free up space as well.
