i've posted to a few mailing lists about this. sorry I didn't do it sooner here!..... COVER ME BADD www.covermebadd.com presents THE REPLACEMENT REPLACEMENTS Sunday, January 18th at the Casbah 9pm 2501 Kettner Blvd. (midtown San Diego), 619-232-HELL opening for ZIGGY SHUFFLEDUST IN PARTIES (BAUHAUS TRIBUTE) For their first performance in over a year (not counting Cover Me American Idol), Cover Me Badd presents a set of covers by Minneapolis' greatest export, the Replacements. The Replacements' Replacements (aka Paul Shook Down aka Cover Me Impressed aka Here Comes A Westerberg) features Adam Gimbel (Rookie Card, arguably already a 'Mats tribute), Stinky (Rugburns), Gerry Wasson (has played with members of the Georgia Satellites & the Allman Brothers Band), and Rick Wilkins, who actually led a blues/swing band called the Nightclub Jitters. It'll be an appropriately underrehearsed fun set and the notoriously sober Gimbel is even threatening to have a drink or two for authenticity. Headlining the show will be Gary Shuffler's fantastic Bauhaus tribute, who made history last month when THE David J hopped up midset to play with them (http://www.davidjonline.com/news/resurrection_again.html). What kind of pairing is Bauhaus and the Replacements, you ask? Have you ever seen Daniel Ash and Tommy Stinson in the same room? I didn't think so.

Adamn,
I used to play around SD between 95' and 99'. Lived there for a few years. Are the Dragons still around? Those guys were alright.
Brian (Evin) they're interchangable...

yup. still around and as good as ever. they're going to be doing a Swedish tour with the Hives soon. check their site for more info www.thedragons.com. what was the band you were playing with down here? Last night's show was SO fun. Got very nice praise from big 'Mats fans. It was nice & raw. Properly unrehearsed and sloppy and fun as hell. Did about 14 songs from Hootenany thru DTASoul. Getting to do the scream at the beginning of Bastards was probably the coolest thing I've ever done. We'll definitely do it again and will probably hit LA before summertime (Spaceland most likely). btw, my REAL band, Rookie Card, gets occasional 'Mats comparisons. check us out! www.rookiecardthemovie.com

just posted this to the Favorite Thing list but.....
wish all y'all could've been there last nite. had an absolute blast and was happy that so many 'Mats fans came out for it. i even drank for the first time since high school for authenticity's sake (not much tho'). way fun. the Bauhaus coverband we played with close with "Ziggy", so of course we did it first, w/different lyrix...
Ziggy Shuffledust s'gonna sing some songs by Bauhaus & the Spiders from mars but we love the 'Mats so f*ck Daniel A-a-ash...
Tommy joined a band jiving us that he knew Axl W. Rose he played with Matt & Izzy & Sla-a-ash he looked so f*cking fine playing Sweet Child o MIne....
setlist Hootenanny (on the wrong instruments & a friend pulled out of the crowd to play guitar, i am so proud of how bad my drumming was) Talent Show Around & Around (the Rolling Stones are playing Philadelphia tonight but we're better, so f*ck 'em) Valentine (with a bit of Bela Legosi's Dead before the solo,it's similar) Swingin' Party Nightclub Jitters (w/sax player) Can't Hardly Wait (w/2 saxes) Color Me Impressed/Skyway (electric/12 string acoustic/mandolin) Unsatisfied Ziggy Stardust I'll Be You Bastards of Young Here Comes A Regular Alex Chilton

Paul would never have an American flag painted on his guitar! My commitment to authenticity only runs so deep. I had to borrow the Gibson because my guitar has Spice Girls stickers on it for chrissakes. Chris Mars never played mandolin from behind the kit! Purists, fack off!

I'd rather just listen to the records.

Listening to the records is cool but, for me, listening to the live boots is better. I have a few that I've worn out over the years and almost never touch my actual albums (made it hard to learn the "real" lyrics). Since you can't go see 'em live anymore, it was fun to do and folks that came were nice enough to tell us that. The hand held recording came out pretty blown out (it was REALLY loud) and the video cut off just as he did our last (best) songs. Ya sorta had to be there. "It sucked but it felt good."(PW)
