Of course Stink, Sorry Ma..., and Hootenanny are great albums. They had BOB STINSON in them. As much as I like Slim as a person and performer, the Replacements died with Bob. In my opinion, the Replacements made more consistent albums after Bob left. While consistency doesn't make the album any better, it does make them easier to listen to completely.

I gotta say, and I never thought I would, that a little glimmer of something left that band after Bob got booted. The solos he threw off were a really nice counterpoint to Paul's lyrics.

i got into the mats post-bob. HOWEVER, i do think that in listening to their whole catalog, a BIG part of the replacements died when bob was booted. it is undeniable. the streettoughs thing left them. they became a "professional band" (as much as they could).
make no mistake, i love the replacements from sorry ma - all shook down. i can listen to all their albums & never tire of them. also, i think that slim is a HELL of a guy, and a good player.
i do agree, though, that things changed drastically when bob left.
here's to bob (raises coffee cup). i'm gonna throw in "stink" in a few minutes....
