"Man Without Ties" reminds me of the song Carol Burnett sang at the end of every show: "I'm so glad we had this time together...Just to have a laugh and sing a song..."

My Dad reminds me of Dylan's Positively 4th Street.

Stain Yer Blood = No Sex (Alex Chilton) ... thematically not sonically

There is a part in "C'mon, C'mon, C'mon" that is lifted directly from Gary U.S. Bond's classic oldie "New Orleans."

Um, so I'm listening to Runaway Wind and for the first time in 12 years it hits me that this song sounds like a Bob Seger song. I can't decide if it sounds more like Roll Me Away or The Fire Inside. But it's eerily Seger-ish. *gulp* I always thought 'Runaway Wind' had a little Jackson Browne in it.

I always thought 'Runaway Wind' had a little Jackson Browne in it. that might be a little closer to the truth! not a bad pick up, there. hey, does anyone know the comparison i made at the start of the thread? i'm interested in what others think of the similarities.

There's a little bit of Psychadelic Furs (Pretty in Pink) in Runaway Wind. I'd like to think this is more coincidence than influence, or that there's an older, cooler source that inspired both.

hey, does anyone know the comparison i made at the start of the thread? i'm interested in what others think of the similarities. Scooter, So far comparing "Never Felt Like This Before" and "This Is Hell" by Elvis Costello (off of the Brutal Youth CD) as you suggested I hear: - piano - "This" in the title (never felt like this is hell) - maybe a certain something in the lyrics/delivery But I think I'm missing something and wouldn't have made the connection myself. One song is like less than a minute, the other's over four. One's with band, the other sounds like he can barely hold himself together to play solo. One's clever and a bit flip, the other's as raw as unrefined Bacharach sugar cane. Tell me more, tell me more ...

So...I was fooling around playing some Prince on my guitar and (maybe this has been said before)....I started singing Kiss Me On The Bus to the tune of When You Were Mine....it fits.
and its pretty fun to just mix em both together and sing it.

I hear a little 'Can't Always Get What You Want' at the beginning of 'Breathe Some New Life.'

I hear a little 'Can't Always Get What You Want' at the beginning of 'Breathe Some New Life.' I always think of that song during the intro of that one too. "Jingle" reminds me of "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill" by the Beatles.

Right after he says My Daydream it sounds like Don't Go Back to Rockville

Like several others have mentioned, I also hear "Can't Always Get You Want" in the intro of "Breath Some New Life." Other parts of that song are reminiscent of "Like a Rolling Stone." In fact, in DC last month, he segued from "New Life" into "Rolling Stone."
I think that "How Can You Like Him?" sounds even more like "Like a Rolling Stone." Very similar if not identical chord progression ... and note the way Paul stretches out the final word of each verse as it spills into the chorus. I found it really odd that he would put "How Can You Like Him?" and "Breathe Some New Life" right next to each other on Folker, given the way they both seem to draw from the same Dylan song.

Another one from Folker: "Lookin' Up in Heaven" reminds me vaguely of Springsteen's "Growin' Up." The similarity is mainly in some of those chiming guitar parts.

Right after he says My Daydream it sounds like Don't Go Back to Rockville When Suicaine came out I thought 'Lookin' Out Forever' sounded a little like 'Driver 8.' Or 'Driver 8' and 'The Ledge's' love child.

The piano part in the chorus of "Time Flies Tomorrow" is virtually identical to Nick Drake's piano in "Pink Moon."
