Any love for 'The Last'?
Seems like the kind of song that has to be lived to be written. Love it! It hurts at any speed.

Gimme Little Joy King of America Backlash (yes, a Joan Jett song but a Paul tune. Pretty good video too)

I love the ballads. But then again sometimes 'Shut Up' hits the spot. Nobody ever talks about it for some reason:
Well apathy's got a hold on me And it won't let go Tell me your problem, I'll tell you mine Motherfucker you're gonna know

But things like "Rattlesnake", "Run It", "Shooting Dirty Pool", "Wake Up", "Beer For Breakfast", the aforementioned...There's a certain level of genius there...I love those kind of songs that he seemed to write for the falling down numbskull demographic. They flirt with self-parody, and are socially insightful in their own way. Highbrow party rock.

On “Buck Hill,” the last time the band yells out “buck hill,” who holds the note out like a wailing banshee? Doesn’t sound like Paul to me...

'Lush and Green'. Is this Paul's version of Edgar Allan Poe's 'Annabel Lee'?
Paul: I fall on you when I hear thunder I kiss the ground you lie under Now I only sleep when spoken to So I'll lay here still in morning dew Drink up with the flowers and trees Above you all is lush and green
Eddie: And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride, In her sepulchre there by the sea— In her tomb by the sounding sea.

Interesting. What a song. Pure poetry.

I have been pretty much obsessed with the Dead Man's Pop version of 'Asking Me Lies.' It's a weird-ass song for the Replacements, but I love it.

A song I have been listening to occasionally this year is "Message to the Boys" from their Best Of years ago. IMO, great rhythm guitar, occasionally clever lyrics, in an otherwise normal song about a rich girl (at least that's my take). It's kind of a strange song, where it straddles the Westerberg side and the Mat's universe, not firmly in one world. But it is one of those "turn it up" songs.
