The Tony Berg sessions have always fascinated me, and I am super stoked about everything on this box set. Like many of you, I have been a super-fan and a collector for an embarrassing amount of years. If you would have asked me a week ago. my wishlist would have looked like this (in chronological order): Tim Remix Tony Berg/Bearsville original DTAS release DTAS Remix Full release of "Inconcerated" recording Madison 89 In one fell swoop, they have unexpectedly addressed 3 of my 4 wishes. I thought it was really cool when they released "Live at Maxwell's", but I have to be honest, I didn't buy it. I streamed it a bunch on Apple Music, but that recording in high quality has been circulating for people who wanted it for 30+ years. The official version sounded great, but I had heard that a thousand times by the first Clinton administration. This Box set? Totally stoked. So much that has never been heard before. I'm still giddy/in shock that this is actually happening. And Bob Mehr's comments on social media today about it have me even more stoked about the "Redux". Yeah there has been some excitement on this thread, but I'm a little surprised it's been as muted as it has been. This is huge! The mythical Bearsville-Berg record! The pre-Lord-Alge mix of Don't Tell a Soul, cleaned of all the 80s sludge (algae?) and what-instrument-is-that? noises, with real drum playing by Chris Mars! And all of Inconcerated! Good God people! There should be dancing in the streets. I'm not sure how much my opinion of Don't Tell a Soul will change--it's always been my least favorite Replacements record by a long way--but I'm really, genuinely excited to hear it in a way in which it at least stands a chance.

Did anyone get an order confirmation from Rhino? I paid via Paypal and the only confirmation I got was from Paypal.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I did, maybe an hour or two after ordering. Rhino gave me a detailed invoice/comfirmation with order number, date and time, CC# info, etc.

Will be dreaming till September of what kind of record we'll get with Dead Man's Pop, with the Redux record, I mean. I'm hearing something kind of gritty and dry and loose like the best of All Shook Down, something less refined and earthier. I know we're getting the same songs, but a different mix can really turn a song into another beast altogether. Will we get more reckless vocal takes, more unhinged solos, a more lively rhythm section courtesy of Chris and Tommy? And what do you think the "unused original album art" (for the cassette version) looks like? Good on ya teddinard!

And what do you think the "unused original album art" (for the cassette version) looks like? It's in the picture on Rhino's site. It just looks like a rough b&w shot of the band name and title crudely scratched into wood or metal.

I’m reminded of an old thread on here, I think it was “Don’t tell a soul Naked” or something. We were all talking about a possible remix of don’t tell a soul, ala the Beatles’ Let it be. Seems like it’s happening! Does anyone notice a slight correlation between The Beatles cover and Dead Man’s Pop? The four portraits?
Anyway, can’t put into words how looking forward I am to this release. Even the title, Dead Man’s Pop, has got me pumped, it’s a great title. I’ve grown to love Don’t Tell A Soul in recent years, especially the vinyl reissue, but a remix is something I’ve often wondered about. Can’t wait to hear it.

No Cruella Deville,NO THANKS!!!
Just kidding! Can't wait to hear this set! Already ordered!
This is one of the biggies that fans have wanted to hear for years.
I'm setting the bar low, that the new mixes will sound like demos, just to set myself up to be pleasantly surprised or blown away.

My apologies to Paul for thinking he may have been slowly retiring before our eyes! It's obvious I don't know a damn thing. I should have known better, that Paul's work ethic borders on mania. Like he said before about his hiatus after Suicaine, he didn't stop working at all. He still recorded in the basement while helping to raise Johnny. So this bit of silence on his part meant he was beavering away on compiling all this stuff. Paul, I'm sorry that I ever thought you were retiring. I will never believe you're done until I hear it from you!
Well...maybe you're being sarcastic, but I don't think this is a reflection on his current status. It sounds like he had little to do with it other than probably signing off on it and telling them where to send the check.

Yes, that's banjo I love it. Wallace dried it out a lot, can't really hear any echo. The vocals sound fantastic, way better than the original mix. So far, this one song has exceeded my expectations

I'm even more excited for this after hearing the Talent Show sample. A couple of observations: 1) The line "Ah, baby, don't give me that look" right after they were feeling good from the pills they took on the Wallace mix seems like a completely different vocal take than the "original" 1989 Lord-Alge mix. 2) The Pseudo-Coda of "It's too lake to turn back, here we go" seems much more "pronounced" and important to the song on the original 80's mix. Much more subdued on the Wallace mix. On the Wallace mix this Coda seems to be an afterthought, but the Lord-Alge mix it's epic. Chalk one up to the MTV-loving, reverb king, Lord-Alge. 3)The banjo is obviously prominent on the Wallace mix, where on the original you only hear it at the end. 4) The vocal line at the end "we might just win this time, you never know" or whatever that actual lyrics are seem to be a different vocal take than on the official '89 release. 5) I like how you can hear the "mmm, Portland" after the first "It's too late to turn back.." 6) there is a "we're outta here" after the first "too late too turn back, here we go" that is louder in the mix and later in the song on the original. Really looking forward to to everything on this box set. I'm sure there will be more leaks/samples as we get closer.

That's radically different then anything I expected for Talent Show. Was this all original sessions or did they re-record parts for this?
