The whole story sounds 'fishy' I'm sure they were gilled.

The owners refused to be molly-fied after the incident and insisted that the band tanked that night.

Just finished reading the book, got it for my birthday and loved every sentence. The whole cliche of feeling like a fly on the wall.... there were just so many fun, hilarious stories, the broken windscreen wiper (singular), cloud, Paul saying, “We’re playing til that fucker leaves....” and so many more. Having Live At Maxwells playing in the background helped to set the mood too. Also found the whole thing to be oddly touching and a great companion piece to Trouble Boys, which I think is still the definitive Mats book. I’d like to read Trouble Boys again now after finishing Lemon Jail.... Anyway, I finished the book hours ago and I’m still smiling. P.s Found this interview on YouTube with Bill. youtu.be/mxUokqZoNGc

I started reading Lemon Jail last night. Already enjoying it a lot!
After I quit reading for the night, I went to sleep and had this dream where I was talking to Bill Sullivan (I've never actually met Bill)and he was showing me some scarce books he had that where basically photojournalism books about The Replacements (I wish there really were such things!) I told Bill how cool I thought the books were and hoped that they would get republished some day. While we were talking about the books, there was a song playing in the background that was not by, but rather was about The Replacements- a song I made up in my dream. I can't remember the melody or even the exact words but it had this theme where something is mention followed by "something we don't have" Kind of like:
Lot's of food in the fridge (Something we don't have!) Good paying jobs (Something we don't have!) Money in the bank (Something we don't have!) Neat and tidy homes (Something we don't have!)
It was a really cool song!

Finally read this...and yeah, it's surprisingly great. Bill has a real wit that makes for a fun read. As someone else wrote, sort of a nice salve after the corroding read that was "Trouble Boys."
Dying to know if anyone has a recording of that first Ritz '86 show that he describes as "the best show they ever played." Link on Replacements Live Archives is down...

I'm not sure if this is the one you're looking for twicks1. It's the 2/1/1986 Ritz show, 2nd link on Live Archive appears to be active. I'm having trouble getting the link post correctly, you'll have to copy & past to get it to work, sorry. mega.co.nz/#!sUVnBTQK!CgV5gJ_ChVMsfP23r-Zkv_rhNdiOS_7NCQ_0vHg25g0

Thanks for the link...although I'm pretty sure the show Bill's talking about is June 20 from that year. He mentions them opening with "Bastards Of Young" and Tommy doing a leap that would make Townshend proud!

Here's the link to the 6/20/86 show as well. And once again my copy and past link isn't working, so you'll have to copy and paste it yourself! mega.nz/#!kZ8BRLbS!aFIb7QPvPOLTTH0wc9keV4K67wGSiq-L3G5c70wWyRU

The book is quite entertaining. (It reminded me of how absolutely insane and carefree life was when I was in my early 20s living in Athens. Glad to still be alive!)
This is as 'inside' as we will get until Paul, Tommy, or Chris publish something. (C'mon Paul)
Wonder why no recordings of Bert or Jefferson's Cock have not surfaced after all these years? p.s. - Tom Petty gets some redemption in the pages of the book. Great little story about him 'fixing' a situation backstage for the boys.

Thank you. It appears quite a few of the links on the live archive are dead, too bad, lots of good shows gone for good. I have a MP3 copy of this show, but I've never been able to find it in FLAC. Let me know if you'd like a PM with a link.
