Paul's sis has been playing the heck out of the old Raspberries hit "Go All the Way" ... at least I've heard her play it twice in the last few days and I hardly have been listening at all.
Can't recall if someone pointed this out at the time but "Go All the Way" has its own ascending-"C'mon C'mon C'mon" vocal part descended from the Beatles' "Please Please Me" -- another possible inspiration for Paul's "My Daydream."
Somewhere Paul said that seeing the Raspberries on TV as a kid made him want to do rock.

Could very well be. I prefer "I want to be with you".

a couple/three years ago I was feeling very 70's and decided to do something about it. I picked up both the Raspberries and Badfinger's Greatest Hits. While not really a fan a greatest hit records, I thought it was a decent approach for these two bands. I am thrilled with both. Great bands, both. Really great songs. Fits well with Big Star, The Faces, Wings and even a little Cheap Trick. Like every decade, they are usually remembered for the crap on the radio. The 70's produced some great music.

Could very well be. I prefer "I want to be with you". The Raspberries were great! I've been a fan since the early '70's. Great production on their records, too- guitars loud and chimey, heavy drums... their drummer was awesome. I always dug 'Tonight'. Eric Carmen had a very Steve Marriott vocal style on some of the tunes, most notably this one. 'Overnight Sensation' was kinda gimmicky, but interesting. If you're a Power Pop fan, you owe it to yourself to check them out! "wanna hit record, yeahhhhh"!

It's funny - I like the Raspberries and Badfinger and that kind of stuff and while I know some of that fits into Paul's work - I always see the differences more than the similarities. The Big Star records after #1 Record (Radio City and Third) are the ones that really evoke the messed up thing Paul had going on. Cross those with the spirit of the Faces and that's really the shorthand formula for the 'Mats.
But the Raspberries and Badfinger had dynamite singles for sure.

Could very well be. I prefer "I want to be with you". I love Go All The Way - what a great opening hook I can hear the Power Pop influence in the Replacements. Kiss Me on the Bus is a great hooked filled song and there are many others

'Overnight Sensation' was kinda gimmicky, but interesting. If you're a Power Pop fan, you owe it to yourself to check them out! "wanna hit record, yeahhhhh"! love the raspberries. there are two compilations (one red, one blue) called "power pop vol. 1" and, if you can believe it, "power pop vol. 2" that aren't greatest hits, per se. the two volumes compile all four raspberries albums with good liner information. i have the red one (vol. 1). i play the shit out of it. "overnight sensation" is amazing. it is the sort of 'teenage symphony' that brian wilson got so good at. i adore that song. for sheer kicks, though, i prefer "play on". it is sort of the road band's universal autobiography, and i would LOVE to hear paul rock this one. anyway, power pop is almost always ok in my book. see also: the shivvers.
