We have this radio station in the Chicago suburbs that claims it will "play anything", and they really will. I've heard Dean Martin followed by Madonna followed by Nirvana.
Well yesterday my wife says she can't get that Darling One song out of her head. Yep, they friggin' played Darling One.

"Les albums Let It Be, Tim et Pleased To Meet Me sont totalement indispensables amha." I think he/she is calling those three records "totally indispensable." But is amha their IMHO?

Had a dream this morning that Tommy and some other dude were listening to some music that I had on. I forgot what song it was (it was an oldie of some sort), but they looked like they might not be enjoying it so I said "I can change the song if you want..." and one of them (think it was Tommy) said "Yeah that would probably be a good idea" and started laughing. ;D
Aaaaaaaand a few minutes later, my time with the spikey-haired one was cut short when I realized that I was actually listening to my radio alarm and was late for work. Balls.

Let's see. The first guy passed over Folker when it came out but now he's finally listened to it and quite likes it. Nothing revolutionary, but folky and bluesy. Says it more in the line of DTAS rather than Hootenany/LIB. Next guy agrees but thinks that with PW's 'talent enorme', he can do better than his basement tapes. Thinks the melodies of the Mats were the best since Big Star and that going from Big Star to the Faces in sound isn't exactly progress. Next post thinks you'll like Grandpaboy. Next post says that "already the (cremery?) is extremely suitable". I don't know what cremery is... Next post talks about AFN/NFA, and how First Glimmer is a favorite. Next post says AFN/NFA doesn't have all the good stuff (no Let it Be) and that LIB/Tim/PTMM are indispensible. 'Amha' must be the French IMHO, though 'opinion' is just 'opinion' in French as far as I know. Next post links to a site which cannot be named and mentions Mats traders are some of the most active. Something about the Mats being the only true heirs to the Stones. The next guy just can't forget how great the Mats were and that PW's solo stuff just can't touch it. Next post says Mats weren't just a group, they were a family and that PW, while the head of the band and songwriter, wasn't the only talented member. Says Tommy's album is pretty good (or has heard lots of good things about it?) Then some crap about Big Star...

This is a fun story from a co-worker who lives nearish Paul and turns out coached Johnny in soccer. At a game, a mom came up to my friend and whispered "do you know who that is over there?" and my friend says "yeah, that's Johnny's dad".

I thought this was interesting...I picked up X's "Aint Love Grand" in Olsonn's Books and Records here in DC. I have it on vinyl but thought, what the heck, I'll buy the CD. Found in the bargain bin selling for $9.99. On the back cover, I noticed they had also listed bonus tracks. One of the bonus tracks was an unreleased demo of John Doe doing "I Will Dare".
I thought that was cool that John wanted to cover a Mats tune!

So, can you post the cover somewhere? I've got the same album on vinyl, and the original CD release. Would HATE to buy that one a third time, just to hear the cover.

That's hilarious! ;D By the way, my friend has since listened to Besterberg ("I really liked that!") and will certainly know who "Johnny's dad" is next time. Though Paul probably prefers to be known as Johnny's dad (as any proud dad would).

www.somethingawful.com/articles.php?a=3202On Something Awful.com they have a feature called Your Band Sucks. "Dr. David Thorpe" makes fun of different bands and is generally very funny. It's often tongue and cheek, he will even make fun of his own favorite bands. Anyways, today's article is about System Of A Down. He writes: “Radio/Video” is The Replacements’ “Seen Your Video,” a mere twenty years too late.

Do random sightings of PW bandmates and would-be bandmates go here? The MPLS paper mentions a Kevin Bowe project today, along with the information that Billie Joe Armstrong met his wife, who's from here, at a concert in Dinkytown. Green Day plays here tonight, and Billie Joe says if he weren't in the band, he'd live here (they own a second home around here somewhere). Think PW could still take him up on that backup band offer? Bowe mention: www.startribune.com/stories/1371/5614538.html

So, this guy I work with mentioned that he had never heard the Mats/PW. I made him a compilation of some of my favorites and he started listening on Thursday. On Friday he comes to work and sees a pile of old Mojos on the breakroom table being given away by a fellow co-worker who's cleaning house. He picks up the 1997 issue with Keith Richards on the front and randomly opens up the magazine to a full-page review of All For Nothing/Nothing For All that also has a small interview with Tommy.
I thought that was funny because that always happens to me. You become aware of something that you never knew existed and never noticed before then all of a sudden, bam!, you're seeing it everywhere.

Sorry if this has been posted before. The Hold Steady's Craig Finn's Magnet interview, and the requisite Replacements anecdote. (The rest of the interview is on Magnet's site.)
Since we’re doing a Minneapolis-themed issue, I heard you had a story that involves the Replacements, Smog and some coincidence during your teenage years.
On the inside of The Shit Hits The Fans cassette, it said, “Write to Bill Callahan. Believe it or not, there’s a fanzine about us.” I couldn’t believe someone would have a fanzine just about the Replacements. So I wrote Bill Callahan a letter and sent him some stamps. The ‘zine was called Willpower, and he did six issues. They were really funny—they’d have cartoons about the Replacements he drew, and it was extremely comedic. We’d write back and forth—it wasn’t like a super-detailed pen-pal thing, but we were friendly—and eventually he started doing another ’zine and I went to college. I don’t remember how I put two and two together, but years later I discovered he was the guy in Smog.
