When my alarm went off this morning Looking Out Forever was playing on the radio. Finished the song and hit the snooze.

The Rake magazine in MPLS has a cover story on the Musicapolis photo exhibit mentioned in another thread here. Not much about the Mats except the magazine cover is the photo from the cover of Sorry Ma. It's like a regular photo, not high contrast like on the record album. All I could find online was this tidbit but the photo shows Tommy too and the headline and cover are in Sorry Ma colors with vaguely Sorry Ma type design: [img src="http://www.rakemag.com/images/uploaded_images/9631/9635/MUSICthumb[1].jpg"] The mag is at www.rakemag.com. It's wrapped in plastic and says "A Photo Album from 'Musicopolis'" which led me to believe that there was an extra collectors edition photo album included. But no ... just a crappy AOL disc.

Uh, ok... So I am watching the G4/TechTV show, "Attack of the Show" (I belive its called) And I guess they have a segment where they show celebs' ipod tracks (spoof, I assume). Well they show Tom Cruise's ipod and low and behold..
Grandpaboy "Pshychopharmacology"
At first glance, not really paying attention I was a bit disturbed and then I realized it was a joke. Oh well, sighting nontheless.

Under the din of a crowded supermarket, I heard what I thought was 'Runaway Wind', but it turned out to be ..uh...Bob Seger.
In the same store I spotted a guy wearing a shirt that said, 'Beer: It's not just for breakfast anymore.' ;D

I guess someone is trying to recruit fans, one soccer player at a time.

The latest issue of Rolling Stone contains a 5 star review of "Let it Be" in one of its reissue review blocks in the album review section. They've started this section to remind themselves of back when they used to write seriously about music.

I know it's a pretty long stretch, but ever since the Northwest Airline mechanic's strike began, I can't help but smile at the assorted headlines on the subject on the internet news sites.
Variations on a theme:
-- Can Replacements Maintain Northwest Fleet?
-- Northwest Brings in Replacements for Strikers
-- Replacements Keep Northwest Aloft
with apologies to anyone who works for Northwest,

Well, Westerberg at least has been on Northwest's in-flight music lineup, so I guess he's helped keep them aloft in the past.
Also chances are if his sister really was a "Waitress in the Sky" it was for Northwest, that airline being based in MPLS. This time they're not "always on strike" ... so far I don't believe the flight attendants union is doing a sympathy strike.

Todays sports headline in a Chicago paper read "Everything Goes Wrong for "El Duque".
It got my attention.

The Rough Guide to "Music USA" was on display at a local indie bookstore, maybe a new edition -- I was in a hurry but it had an original copyright of 1999. Anyway the sizable Minneapolis chapter was not bad, focusing on "The Big Three" (Mats, Huskers, Soul Asylum). Info and opinion were generally spot on ... the writer or writer expressed the opinion that the Mats were at their best when Paul was being serious, and that it was a good thing that aspect had come to the fore in his solo career--not always what you read.

Chris Mars has a show coming up at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts ... the big fancy museum in town. It's part of the Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program, through which local artists are exhibited just down the hall from Rembrandt, etc. Check out www.artsmia.org/exhibitions/details.cfm?EV_ID=2091 ... it opens 9/23, and there might be a reception or something where you could meet the artist. These are Chris's oil paintings he's been doing the last few years. A sample: The museum magazine had an article about the show that didn't mention the Mats or music once.
