He's said this several times in the press in the mid 90's.
'Tis a shame him being mysterious (because he was insecure about his fine lyrics) means that instead of the words for "Runaway Wind" or "First Glimmer" we get a book of spare photos of Paul.
Imagine a Tim lyric sheet? Or a Let It Be one for that matter?
Oh well.
(sigh)

Really? I never thought it was a matter of insecurity but that his lyrics aren't really set in stone. As much as he ad-libs, wouldn't publishing a lyric sheet be somewhat counterproductive?

Imagine a Tim lyric sheet? Or a Let It Be one for that matter? I guess it'd be nice, but then we would have been deprived of the great fingernails/bacon debate.

I thought part of the reason for not committing them to paper that it would require resolving intended ambiguities. For example, is it "let's not belong together" or "let's not belong, together"?

Or could it also be "let's not be long together"? I don't think it's Paul's insecurity that brings about no printed lyrics. He might like us being free to hear whatever it is we happen to hear in a song. And he might like being able to change the words at will or when he thinks of better ones. Or maybe he just thinks songs should be heard and not read. A piece of art presented as a whole, music included. I guess we'll never know for sure.
