I've been messing around on guitar with a capo on the 2nd fret a few days and out of nowhere I played something that sounded very similar to Little Mascara off just an A and an E chord.
E|-5----4---5-5-5---4-| B|-5----5---2-3-2---5-| G|-2----4---2-2-2---4-| D|-2----2---2-2-2-2-2-| A|-4--------------4---| E|-5--------------5---|
The thing is, I wasn't actively trying to figure out Little Mascara, but I came up with something that sounds almost identical to Paul's guitar. Did Paul use a capo on this one? It sounds just like it, but it was a sheer coincidence that I came up with this; so I'm a bit skeptical still.

That's pretty good for a guitar in standard tuning. To me it sounds like it's in an open tuning. Either open A or open G with a capo on the 2nd fret. I have a guitar in open G and came up with this: Open G = D, G, D, G, B, D (tuning low to high) (capo 2nd fret---notes relative to capo position) or Open A = E, A, E, A, C#, E (no capo) slide
----------------------------- --3--3---3--0--1--0-----/3--- --0--2---2--0--0--0--0---0--- --0--0---------------0------- --0--2----------------------- -----------------------------
and some of the chords used during the verse parts:
---------------------- --3--3---------------- --2--0---5--2---0--7-- --0--0---5--2---0--7-- --0--0---5--2---0--7-- ----------------------

Wow, I tried it out and that sounds perfect! I guess I got it close but not exactly right. Thanks.

Most everything on Tim is in Open A. Either that or standard, but I'm pretty sure that Little Mascara is in Open A. It doesn't change any of Gtr Plyr's tab though.

I've always played LM in standard tuning with no problem.

yeah, i play it in standard tuning sans capo too and it sounds good and is easy to play. i never mess around with the open tuning, maybe i should give it a try?

Open tunings are how Paul flavors all of his stuff. It started all the way back with Let It Be and "Answering Machine" being in Open A. Since then he's never stopped. It's the way a lot of signature sound of songs like "Left of the Dial," "Can't Hardly Wait," and "Alex Chilton." They're all playable in standard, but to get all the right over-tones and vibe open tunings are the way to go.
