I'll just add that it seemed that PW knew his place at this show: that he was there as part of the cast to support his wife's big night, and really did nothing flashy to stand out. Good point - as a matter of fact, until he kissed Laurie and Mary, I thought his attitude bordered on indifferent. Those simple gestures showed me a lot.

Previous accounts seem accurate to me. I'd never heard any of Zuzu's stuff before - they did sound a little rusty, but I'd say there was at least a hint of something interesting there.
The way they interwove the interview and the music was good, the pacing was just about right. The highlight of the evening for me was definitely the Goddamned Angel song - vintage PW, when he's really trying. The Stones songs weren't great, but it was still fun to hear him do them, and ending the evening with Daydream Believer was a wonderful quixotic touch.
It was different than a normal show (even one of Paul's shows) in terms of not really knowing what to expect beforehand, but as I look back on it, it was a pretty cool evening. It was also a nice bonus to meet fellow board members and partake in some excellent Minnesota hospitality. The twin cities have a lot of cool historic homes of the sort I love - I even got escorted to see one of the 10,000 lakes. ;D
Overall, I'm quite glad I made the trip.

I'm really glad people are pointing out Lori B's vocals. I thought she sounded quite great. She did vocals on one song in her more recent band Koalas and her performance Saturday night was so much stronger than anytime I saw the Koalas play. Of course a theatre sound system compared to a dive bar is a difference too. I was extremely impressed, but knew she'd pull off something great.
I loved Paul's cover of "I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face" but found it hard not to laugh at Boquist reading the lyrics. Still a very sweet moment. Great to see everyone at the show, definitely glad I decided to get a ticket.

Nothing to add, but Thanks to all you Minnesotians for extending your hospitality! Forget to tell Wolf that the brat was excellent.
footnote--when I went to the MSP airport, I wanted to grab a twins cap and laughed when I saw more packer than viking stuff at the gift store! Was amazing.

Small question: did the first act guitar make an appearance?

Small question: did the first act guitar make an appearance? No. He played his beat up Flying V, and a black Strat that I believe belonged to one of the other musicians.

I don't remember him ever playing it with the Mats or solo, unlike the SG that he smashed during one of the Pantages shows. Seems like it just turned up during the last tour. Looks like it's been well used.

He played it on one of the nights at the Pantages. It looks a little more modified (duct tape) since then.

Fakebook aside:
Great show last night at the Hexagon in Mpls.
Steve Wynn, Jim Boquist, Ed Ackerson, John Munson, Marc Perlman, and Linda Pitmon. A set of Dream Syndicate/Wynn songs, a set of covers (including Badfinger, Wings, and The Stones) and two songs from attendees Zuzu's Petals. Plus, Wynn and Pitmon announced their engagement.
Lots of great music and great people to hang out with.

I couldn't help feeling a tiny bit like an interloper, amongst all you native Minnesotans. But it was a fun evening - I'm sure it won't be my last foray to the state. I've already been dared to attempt a winter visit - not quite sure my cold-hardiness is up to that task, we'll hafta wait and see... ;D

Jon Bream, senior rock critic at the MPLS Star Trib, listed PW at the Fakebook in today's paper as one of his cool things of the week:
PICK SIX Paul Westerberg, Fitzgerald Theater. As a bit player in wife Laurie Lindeen's "Fakebook," he did two Stones covers, a killer rockabilly tune ("God Damn Angel") and "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" (with Jim Boquist sitting next to him whispering the lyrics), which brought tears to Lindeen's eyes. It was classic Westerberg — twisted and lovely.
