I got chewing gum and walking down.
If I could ever (seriously) request a cover, I'd want to hear PW and HOF belt out "California Man". Not as CT did it - more in the original Rockabilly vein like the Move first performed it.

I have seen such intense actors as Gary Oldman I read that as "Gary Coleman" my first time thru. Agreed, "If I Had A Hammer" is equally inspired, as is the "Live Forever" -- I can sorta see where Different Drum and Live Forever fit in with some thematic stuff in paul;s music but "If I had a Hammer", I can't figure out where that one came from....only because Paul was so vocal about musicians not being political and while it is a folk song, it's also kind of a protest song...he's become a damn hippie

here are the Live Forever lyrics:
I'm gonna live forever I'm gonna cross that river I'm gonna catch tomorrow now
You're gonna want to hold me Just like I always told you You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
Nobody here will ever find me But I will always be around Just like the songs I leave behind me I'm gonna live forever now
You fathers and you mothers Be good to one another Please try to raise your children right Don't let the darkness take 'em Don't make 'em feel forsaken Just lead them safely to the light
When this old world is blown asunder And all the stars fall from the sky Remember someone really loves you We'll live forever you and I

but "If I had a Hammer", I can't figure out where that one came from.... Kathy, since your a Boston girl you should be familiar with Paul's old 1993 guitar player Dave Minehan who played in a band called The Neighborhoods... When I first heard Paul play 'Hammer' I assumed he ripped off the idea from the 'Hoods who did a similar arrangement.. But, I could be wrong.. CF

As long as we're posting cover lyrics. Here's the Sham 69 song:
I'm sitting in this cell for something I didn't do And all I can think of is baby I think of you Don't worry baby coming back for you
There's gonna be a borstal breakout There's gonna be a borstal breakout There's gonna be a borstal breakout There's gonna be a borstal breakout
Now I've got the chance I don't care about what I do When I done them things I done them just for you And now I'm getting out coming back for you
There's gonna be a borstal breakout There's gonna be a borstal breakout There's gonna be a borstal breakout There's gonna be a borstal breakout
Well now I'm over the wall I'm nearly home I'm coming through that door coming back to you Now I'm nearly home nearly back for you
There's gonna be a borstal breakout There's gonna be a borstal breakout There's gonna be a borstal breakout There's gonna be a borstal breakout

I've been looking for the lyrics to 'Live Forever' since I heard it earlier in the tour.

Another vote for If I had a hammer. I loved it in Chicago and just hearing it on the Denver boot confirmed how good it is.
These guys need to get good recordings of these covers and put them out on cd. This band is too good and fun to just use for one tour.

ok it's Hammertime
If I had a hammer I'd hammer in the morning I'd hammer in the evening all over this land I'd hammer out danger, I'd hammer out warning I'd hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters All over this land
If I had a bell I'd ring it in the morning I'd ring it in the evening all over this land I'd ring our danger, I'd ring out warning I'd ring out love between my brothers and my sisters All over this land
If I had a song I'd sing it in the morning I'd sing it in the evening all over this land I'd sing out danger, I'd sing out warning I'd sing out love between my sisters and my brothers All over this land
When I've got a hammer, and I've got a bell And I've got a song to sing all over this land It's a hammer of justice, it's a bell of freedom It's a song about love between my brothers and my sisters All over this land

My best friend at the time (we must have been 11 or 12) saw that tour too! She was *really* into the Monkees for some reason, lusting after Micky Dolenz. She even went to conventions and had her picture taken with Peter Tork. (My first show was the Beach Boys in 1980, I was 5.)

I had a massive crush on Peter Tork; completely ruined me for all men. I shook hands with him once, as he tripped down a flight of stairs.

I agree. Peter Tork was the cutest Monkee. I could never understand how most girls liked Davey best.

Mike Nesmith wrote some great songs, Listen to the Band is a personal favorite.I think Mickey Dolenz has one of the coolest rock'n'roll voices . Man, the Monkees were great.
David Cassidy has a pretty cool voice too.

OK, you Peter Tork fans, try to not be too jealous, please.... PT is playing at a bar about 5 miles from my house (on Cape Cod, Massachusetts) tonight. Unfortunately (?) I won't be able to make it, but I *am* going to see the Doobie Brothers on Sunday night (free tickets). ~~Meri

I'm going to be down in Osterville for a couple of days. I saw the B52s there 2 summers ago and it was a blast, love the tent
