Was he real drunk or was it just me? He was definitely not drunk. Sorry I missed everyone at MB's. Got caught up trying to get everybody together before the show and didn't get to the TLA until late. Impressions: no visible crazy. No busted guitars, no rolling around on stage, no tormenting his guitar tech. Thoroughly different experience from Tempe. Thought he was really professional. The band was loose, relaxed to a degree where they dragged a bit through the first part of the show--not to the point where they risked losing the crowd, but it was just a little too laid back. They found a groove and really blasted through the latter half. Yep, Knockin on Mine into Mr. Rabbit was one of the coolest things I've ever heard. Never Mind took my breath away. Have to add the requisite "Michael Bland is the best drummer I've ever seen" statement here. Wow!

unreal show, but feel slighted by the one song encore.

I definitely feel slighted with the one song encore; however, Alex Chilton was the perfect way to end.
Favorite part of the show: When the entire place crooned along with Paul to "Here Comes a Regular." "Valentine" and "Never mind" were close runner ups.
--- I almost kicked the dude I was walking behind when I left TLA - he said "That was quite possibly the worst show I ever saw." The kicker was that his favorite show was a Rusted Root show (sorry to all the RR fans but to me there is no question which artist/band is better).

Paul seems to have fallen into a little pattern as the tour winds down - following up a sloppy drunk show with a tight, focused one. So NYC 1 led to NYC 2 and now DC led to Philly. He wasn't quite as "charged" as he was the second night at the Supper Club, but this was still an excellent, inspired show. But hey, there will always be people who prefer their PW extra messy so who knows... I was exteremly pleased with how different the set was from NYC 2. Philly got Little Mascara, Here Comes a Regular AND If Only You Were Lonely, I'll Be You, Dirty Diesel, Eyes Like Sparks (!) and the awesome Knockin' On Mine>Mr. Rabbit combo. Oh, and while he did only one encore he did throw in Nevermind at the end of the regular set after Can't Hardly Wait and IOU. The show was maybe 5 minutes shorter than the Supper Club show I saw. Again, as luck of the draw would have it I couldn't be happier with the two show I got to see.

MICHAEL BLAND. wow. I wonder how many snare heads he goes through in a week. a monster drummer who's performance was worth the price of admission alone. Must be nice for PW to have those solid players behind you, knowing you can perform in any way you want.
no doubt that that the setlist was very cool. but i was expecting a little more energy from PW. i got the vibe that he was just sick of touring, missing his boy, and daydreaming of playing catch in the yard. I hope you folks down south don't get any more gigs cancelled. That being said, PW going through the motions is exponentially better than anyone else going off! I had a great Rock 'n Roll time. I would love to get a recording of that show...
While reading the upcoming area show info in the men's room, I realized that Ryan Adams is playing at the Electric Factory on May 30. Maybe I will go to that to check him out.
BTW, my brother and I went to every bar on south street, and I realized that I didn't know how to ID any other MWT folks without an avatar. I will use this experience as an example for my research, but I digress... I figure it was poetically correct for a PW show that we were "all alone together". Although I did contemplate yelling "I Hate Music" after a few Guinness to see what kind of response I would get...
I will post some crappy camera-phone pics soon. Why am I so thirsty when I drank so much last night?
