Hi there. A few Things:
1. Is there any sort of pre-show location established for Philly? I know pretty much nothing about Philadelphia (I'll be driving down from the 'Cuse and meeting a few friends who are also making road trips to the gig). But I'd be happy to meet and share a few beers with any fellow concert-goers before the big show.
2. On the off chance that anybody with any input into the set list reads this, I'd like to once again state for the record that it would be just great to hear "Nobody" at the Philly show. If I'm being honest, I'd also say it would be epic to hear "Things."
3. I'm totally pumped for this show.

I lived in Philly once upon a time, so I know the city kinda well. I live in NYC now, so sorry but I won't be in Philly for that concert. Anyway, the place where the concert is going to take place is in South Street--really crowded, esp. at night, and it has a whole bunch of different shops and bars. For bars there's one near the venue called Tatoo's Mom or Tatooed Mom's or something like that. It's kinda of a metal/punk bar kinda thing. So if you're into early Mats and Ramones or something like that, that place is pretty cool Hope you have fun man! Say hi to the city for me

Any chance we could make some place, at some time; "official". It would be cool to meet some folks from MWT.

Go to Dirty Frank's on 13th and Pine.
Believe me, it'll be the perfect place for a Paul pre-show, post-show meetup.
Great Jukebox. The right atmosphere..
it's not too far from the venue, about 10-12 min walk, or five min. taxi ride down to 4th and Pine, walk over to South and there you are.
You know you wanna.

That's the one we went to in 2002 before the show, it was a cool place and very close to the TLA. Yep, it's a cool place, and literally down the street from TLA. I think it might even be like 5 doors down... As for Dirty Franks...well, I have mixed feelings about that place. I think it used to be cooler once upon a time, but since last year it seems like it's always crowded to capacity; and by people who read that City Paper article about it. After that article it seemed like their attendance jumped by 80%. And, I don't think I've ever seen more rude bartenders in my life. Man, they're really mean in that place! Just full of attitude if you're not like an everyday regular. So, it's a cool place, but just not my favorite in Philly. I really like the coffee shop across the street though... Anyway, hope whoever goes to Philly has fun! Oh yeah, and I've always wondered if the footage from the CFMT dvd where he's like walking down the street, then to an alley, then knocks on a backstage door and someone opens up--was that shot in Philly? That looks like the backway for TLA. But I might just be very, very wrong. If anyone has a guess let me know...

Tattooed Mom's is definitely the place to meet beforehand. It's a couple blocks west of the venue, and it's really the only bar worth going into on the touristy strip that is South St.
Good beer, reasonably inexpensive, and tasty bar food.
Time?

Dirty Frank's, while perfect, is also 15 blocks from TLA. Go to Dirty Frank's on 13th and Pine. i

I impulse bought CFMT at the Tower Records on South, so I quite unknowingly made a nearly identical walk on my way to get the DVD.

Manny Brown's 512 South Street (1 1/2 blocks from TLA) 6-6:30ish & beyond. Many folks from the "Marah nation" (and therefore Westernerds) will be there so you know the drinking will be hearty and the conversation boisterous.

While I will happily join the crew headed to Manny Brown's, I'd like to point out that the last time I was in there I found a roach in my ribs. That said, it actually might be the perfect place for a pre-Westerberg drinkfest.

Thanks to everybody who has responded to my post.
We should try reach a consensus within the next couple of days. Sounds like it's either Tattooed Mom's, Dirty Franks or Manny Brown's. Based purely on number of posts (and the fact that Kathy said it was nice in 2002), it seems like Tattooed Mom's has the lead. But nothing has to be final for a day or two, I wouldn't think. Crenshaw, is there already a pre-concert meetup planned at Manny Brown's?
We should think about time though. Concert's at 9:00, so doors would probably open at 8:00, right? Whatever we end up choosing, I probably see my friends and I arriving before 6:00. Probably at 5:00.

"Crenshaw, is there already a pre-concert meetup planned at Manny Brown's?"
It ain't officially sanctioned: only Kathy has that power, but it's looking like a bunch of my Philly area Wester-friends are going to be there so...that's where I'm going.
Please feel welcome to look for the drunken louts who appear poised for the show of their lives!

We should try reach a consensus within the next couple of days. I'm cool with either of the South St. choices, so Manny's or Mom's. If there's beer and conversation, I don't care if we hold the meet in the alley behind the TLA. Since it sounds like crenshaw's headed to Manny's, I'll probably head over there around 6:30. I'll wear a Belle & Sebastian t-shirt that has a giant orange ampersand on the front so it'll be impossible to miss me.

Okay, so it looks like it's Manny Brown's. It'll be nice to meet all of you who will be there. I'm telling you, I'm really excited for this show.

The countdown begins... only 4 hours until the show! The last time I saw him at the TLA I was floored - it was an amazing show.

Too delirious to post too much right now but all I can say is Knockin' On Mine>Mr. Rabbit was the best thing I've ever seen. Oh yeah, and his attempt Beer For Breakfast was quite comical. And finishing up with Can't Hardly Wait, IOU, Nevermind, and Alex Chilton....I could die tomorrow and be OK with it.
