So, PW PLAYED with your band? Details please.
Also, went to your bands sight and.....you guys sound good! We never get bands much like that in Grand Rapids as far as I know--but what DO I know as my black has REALLY turned to gray. Closest I've heard on this side is Dutch Henry.

So, how's Jack coming along with that 'Michael Jackson meets Wild Bill Hickock' look he's been sporting lately? Am I the only one disturbed by the way he looks these days? Glad your show went well melrose_cowboy! I had planned on stopping in but my daughter was sick so we had to get home as soon as we could. Drop me a PM if you guys ever play East Lansing or Lansing. ETA: Oh, and I'm still absolutely giddy about your post MichaelB. It made my day, my week, my month, and possibly my year. ;D

ok, its Tuesday night, April 26 at 11:20 pm, the ears are still ringing and im still thinking about the show last Friday night. its definately says something where nearly a week goes by and you're still thinking about the last show you went to. Damn.
a couple of things: first, i would like to apologize for misleading anyone to think Paul played a Neil Young cover. actually, he didn't play a Neil Young cover at all. he was simply taking the piss out of this guy who kept shouting out something about NY. it was definately not my intention to lead anyone astray. the guy actually stood right next to me when he did it, and when the band played "Alex Chilton," PW looked right at in my direction at the guy when he did the ad-lib ("i'm in love/with Neil Young/I'm in love/with that song"). kinda cool to think he was looking at me in my vicinity.
second, thanks to angela for helping out with the setlist. i just knew it was a little off as i typed it up. as the time and days go by, i've actually gotten a chance to clearly remember what it was. its still a little spotty but i'll post it later on.
thanks also to the member bringing up the sandbag. sorry that i forgot your name but you know who you are. i was wondering about that too, but now i know. i also know now why the roadie was a dick to me and this lovely young lady who politely asked for the setlist. he just glared at us and yelled, "No! YOU CAN'T HAVE THE SETLIST BAWWWW!!" ok, he really didn't do the BAWWW thing but you get the idea. it must be hard to be PW's roadie if he's spitting all over you.
so yeah, this show will definately go down as one of the greats in my book. even the 'mats tunes were fantastic. i really loved hearing "Left of the Dial" and "here comes a regular" live. i could just feel the whole venue come together as one while Paul sang the chorus to "Reguler." it was touching to hear that. Tim was the first 'Mats album i picked up and just hearing those songs made my night. Great fucking show, Paul! Please dont' make us wait another three years!!

the correct setlist (still a little iffy in areas):
Stain Yer Blood Gun Shy AAA Different Drum Achin' to Be Merry Go Round Someone Take the Wheel Live Forever Well I wonder I will Dare Little Mascara Valentine Psychopharmacology Born for me High Time Vampires and Failures Mr. Rabbit What a Day (for a night) Looking Up in Heaven How can you like him? As far as i know I'll Be You Only a Hobo Love Untold I think i love you knockin on mine ENCORE: Skyway Here comes a Regular Alex Chilton Left of the Dial

oh yeah i almost forgot something!! PW got a write up in the paper!! in the Monday edition of the Detroit Free Press, they had a huge article on the MC2 conference. there was a section called "Free Press Picks: Top Performances of the Conference" and Paul was one of them! here's what they had to say:
"It was a bit of a sketchy - and cranky - start for the former Replacements leader. But a half hour into this bang-up set the crowd was lapping up his ragged but righteous pop-rock, including lots of stuff from his two most recent solo albums, and a healthy dose of tunes from his old band, including rave-up versions of classics like 'I''ll Be You' and 'Left of the Dial' and 'Alex Chilton.'"
i dont know about the next guy, but i really dont agree about the whole "sketchy" thing. "cranky," hell yeah in a good way!! "sketchy?" i dont think so.

From a write up in Detroit's Metro Times: Friday night began with Paul Westerberg, who rocked a crowd of graybeards with assorted material both solo and Replacements-linked. Highlights included “Alex Chilton,” “Skyway,” and completely unironic covers of “If I Had a Hammer,” “I Think I Love You” and “Different Drum.” www.metrotimes.com/editorial/story.asp?id=7621

He didn't play any Neil Young? It was just something he made up? I'm already forgetting details unfortunately. He must have done a song that I'm completely unfamiliar with then, that I thought was Neil Young. However, now I'm starting to doubt that I even heard the song because I can't remember anything about it or even if it really happened. Hopefully somebody taped it so I can relive the night without having to rely on my poor memory. Thanks for the additional info Jason! *still on cloud 9*

did paul not play "don't cry no tears" off 'zuma'? was i THAT dunk that i thought i heard something that didn't happen? Now I'm totally confused. Neil Young song or no Neil Young song? I need to just hunker down with Neil Young's catalog so I can identify his work and answer my own questions in the future.

I'm a new poster here. This is the show I attended. Reading this thread brought back some good memories. When I was waiting in line to use the men's room I said "You know 20 years ago there would have been a pile of puke on the floor and someone pissing in the sink." The guy standing in line next to me said "Yeah, it would have been me."
