Hey Kids -
It seems a bunch of you on the DC to Philly thread seem to be going it alone - want to do a little meet up? I'm new to the area, and for me drinks are WAY overpriced everywhere, but I like the tiny little bar at the Velvet Lounge, and it's a two minute walk to the 9:30. Any other suggestions?
Yr Pal,
John

heyjohn,
unfortunately, the 9:30 club is in a weird part of town; there's not much around the club. On one part of the club, you've got 7th Street/Georgia Ave NW, which has Howard University Hospital there and not much else as you hit Flordia Ave. And on the other, 9th St, I don't know what's around there, it all looks like mom and pop restaurants.
I've never been to the Velvet Lounge, but if it's close, that may be an option. I willcheck around and see what else is close by.

Yeah Free, there is not a whole lot around. You have to go further down into Shaw to find some bars. State of The Union used to be cool. I am not sure if it exists anymore I have not been out drinking down there in quite some time. 4 P's is always cool.

hey duckfoot,
indeed, not much there. there might be some things along the U Street corridor, but you'd have to go further south from the 9:30 Club. also, the neighborhoods are in transition---so there's still that bit of edginess if you're driving and trying to find a place to park around those neighborhoods off the main streets.
The subway is probably the best way to go. I don't think Paul will be playing that late that you can't get the last train home. If the doors open at 10pm, he'll probably hit the stage about 10:45, 11-ish. However, if he gives us a monster 2 hour show, you might have problems if you want to meet him afterwards. I think the subway stays open until 2am, but I don't know when the last train leaves at Petworth Station.

Hey guys-if you're coming from the Metro stop and Velvet Lounge is across the street. Pass Velvet and take a right on 9th Street(away from 9:30 Club). 1/2 a block down is DC Nine-very cool club. Booths, internet jukebox and a bit nicer to hang than the Lounge PM me if you're interested. I should be there with some pals by 8 PM on show night ;D

in regards to my earlier post, I had a brain fart---I meant the U St/Cardoza and Shaw/Howard University metro stops---NOT Petworth Station. I might try and get over to DC Nine, I've never been there either. I'll shout out "Westerberg!" and see if any of you folks responds. if not, then I know you're all over at Velvet Lounge or something...

I have no clue where those palces are. I realize I have not lived in DC since 96'. I guess I will see you all at the show. I may try to locate Velvet Lounge if everyone goes there.

Duckfoot,
are you driving in or taking the subway to the club? Parking looks to be a major butt pain since they've got an early show going on at the 9:30 Club. And parking near and around those other bars don't look too great either---it looks like permit parking and all.

No, it looks like a friend is driving. I guess we will try to get in the lot. I am not sure he will want to park his girlfriends car by one of the numerous abandoned buildings by 9:30. Damn permit parking. I could borrow my Dad's car I guess. I will see you there Free. Later bro.

duckfoot, if I don't run into you at one of the bars for the pre-show cocktails, I'll try to find you among the hundreds of people inside 9:30! yeah, right...
