....and luckily I don't have to. In just 20 hours time I shall be seeing Mr Westerberg live for the 1st time. I've waited for this day for so long. Finally he's doing a UK show. Here's my story : having read about them in the UK music press for a few years and thinking 'they sound like my kinda band' I finally heard The Replacements in 1992 when I found tape copies of 'Pleased To Meet Me' and 'Don't Tell a Soul' in a little record store in Cardiff ; I loved them straightaway ; very soon I got all the other albums ; soon enough they were My Favourite Band Ever. If Id just got into them a year earlier maybe I could have seen the last London show in 1991. In the middle of 93 I heard that Paul was to play London sometime soon but I didnt know exactly when ; I did some travelling round Europe that summer ; I got back to the UK to find he'd played London 5 days previously. Then it was announced he'd play at the Reading Festival that August ; I went to it purely to see him ; I only found out when I got there that he had pulled out. In the years since then Ive bought all the solo albums and have desperately hoped that he would play the UK but of course he hasnt.Until now.So am I excited about it? Is The Pope a Catholic? I'm so excited Ive thought about little else for the past few weeks. Im finally gonna be seeing one of my biggest heroes , a man who wrote so many songs that mean so much to me.It should be quite a night.
