Just fyi, to add to Solace's post - this is the scoop so far based on what I learned from management today. Paul will be playing one show, Friday Nov. 5 at the Pantages Theater in Mpls. A second show? Hmmm And he will have a BAND (I know that makes everyone happy!). Paul will be backed up by a band called The Painkillers...just who that might be has not yet been announced. As with everything in life, esp in music, all details are subject to change/confirmation/unexpectedness. The shows are not even up on the venue's web site yet, nor are they up on TM. You can check out the venue seating chart though: www.state-orpheum.com/pantagesseating.aspand start plotting and scheming how you're going to get a good seat The venue holds about 1,100 people. At this point in time, what I have heard is that tickets will go on sale on Friday, Oct. 1. When I get confirmation of that I will post it. more to come.

As a wise old man once said in a darker place far away, this really sounds like it might be the beginning of something. What we need is for every Westerberg fan with the time and means to make it to these shows, so that the demand will inspire repeat performances elsewhere.
Pantages sounds like a classy joint. It's not a little place, either. And there'll be a band! Somebody must be feeling pretty good about Paul's continuing popularity in MPLS.

this sounds like very positive news. Painkillers is sometimes used as a slang for heroin. also a friend of mine released a song called painkillers on his latest release and the guitarist from the figgs joined his band this summer. the song is about his wife's battle with cancer so their soul asylum connection here. this may be premature but i'm thinking Paulies gonna rock out.

For 36.50 I would certainly expect a well rehearsed band, a 90 plus minute show, and a pretty good sound system.
make a note: Drummers will do ANYTHING for a few free beers and the ability to put 6 people on the guest list.
If he paid more than that for a drummer he is whack.

If he paid more than that for a drummer he is whack. I'll betcha he plays closer to 120 minutes than 90. And regarding cheap drummers, maybe its not too late to send the ole resume? Just be sure to include me on the guest list? And if I go all the way up to the hinterland, i'm going to spring for both shows. I can always pay mr visa NEXT month.

i'll be seeing both. i know it's not the 8 bucks at the door we all like to pay for shows (myself included), but the pantages is a restored theater. i haven't been there yet, but these places cost money to operate, and dammit, paul deserves my dough.
i have enough to spare for both, so there you have it. $50 is my cutoff for a rock & roll show. no rock concert is worth more than $50 at this point.

And FYI, the venue website has the tickets listed at $40: www.hennepintheatredistrict.com/upcomingonsales.aspAlso, I would just like to correct myself and say that one show is scheduled right now and that is for Friday. Now if say...there were overwhleming demand or something, well, who knows what might happen Saturday? Perhaps, maybe, could be? But officially, one only show has been announced. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

most shows i go to are between $8-15 tops out of the 100 (give or take a few) shows i see a year, only about 10 are over $25 it's not outrageous, but it is a lil high. it's the highest i've paid for any of the 6 shows i've seen at the Pantages (previous high was $26) i expected it to be $30, truth be told i paid $32 for Wilco, but then again, they have 6 members currently, and w/ their current lineup, i know i'm going to get another good show. not to slight Paul, but if i'm going to be paying $30+, i expect a pretty damn good/well rehearsed show, that as pointed out, should be at least 90 minutes, maybe close to 110-120 i will say though, that the $36 (or $40) price will keep some casual fans away. i've got a few friends who love Paul a good deal, but when i told them how much it was, they said "damn. that's too bad, oh well", meaning they wouldn't be going at that price.
