Paul's variation on the cowboy voicing of the E chord turned out to be a skeleton key for a few songs.
Here's the way he likes to play it, in standard tuning, low-to-high:

Fiddle around with it and you've got the chorus to "Wild and Lethal," most of "My Daydream" and "My Dad." The trick is to fret the chord without muting any strings.
The verses for "W&L" are G-C and whatever you call (low-to-high) 3X303X; and a C7-C7-sus thing. The prechorus is Eb7-Ab7-Bb7 and (on "you're gonna want some relief"), an F#7-type chord that I approximate as 2X2320 (again, low-to-high).
Then comes the big E-B-A modulation with Ab and Db bass notes and a lot of sympathetic ringing:
"'Cause I'm wild and lethal/I'm a mile deep though"
0 0 0 0
0 0 0 0
4 4 4 4
2 4 2 4
2 2 4 2
0 0 0 0
"Ain't a bank that/can hold me back"
0 0 0 0
0 0 0 0
4 4 4 4
2 2 4 2
X 0 2 0
4 X 0 X
That's basically it. Play around with that progression and those voicings, and you'll have "My Daydream" and "My Dad" nailed.
