I edited the bridge part. I think that's right!

Doesn't PW say in the intro to this at The Craft interview that he wrote "Everyone's Stupid" for "Open Season" but the studio honchos thought it was too scary?
What is scary about it? The "C'mon home, daddy" is kind of harrowing in an after-school special kind of way. But it's not scary in the way that the Ted Nugent hunter character in "Open Season" was scary. Supposedly a honcho's kid's fear of that part kept some other PW songs out of the soundtrack.
Also, how would this song have fit into the plot of "Open Season"?
I just don't get it.

I really don't remember hearing that during the Craft interviews! I thought he had said that "Everyone's Stupid" was something he wrote just recently after the long dry spell he had following his accident.

It's okay... Everyone's stupid. Or ... maybe not so much. From another thread: Not a review, but since Demps mentioned "Everyone's Stupid" here, I thought I'd mention.... When Paul talked Sunday night about "Everyone's Stupid" I remembered having read somewhere along the line that he'd written that for Open Season, but it didn't get used for the soundtrack. Thanks to the wonder of google, I found that reference: “I thought I was making a rock ’n’ roll soundtrack, and in the end they have the London Philharmonic and all this lush orchestration in certain places,” he says. “It was never sold to me like that, but I knew it was coming. They also had me recut songs that I liked. I did one song for this scene in a minimart. They made me rewrite it five times. And in the end they didn’t use any of it; they used some other band’s song instead. I also did this song called ‘Everyone’s Stupid,’ which I thought was really good, but it got cut because it frightened one of the producer’s children. For a guy who doesn’t take advice very well, I wasn’t used to dealing with stuff like that.” Link to the harpmagazine.com article.
At the craft I'm pretty sure he said it was from the perspective of a neighborhood kid whose parents were splitting up, and everyone in town knew it except the kid.
When I hear it, I think its a bit more personal than that, especially the "when are you coming home Dad" part. Funny that the "Dad" was dropped in 49:00.

Funny that the "Dad" was dropped in 49:00. very interesting. i didn't realize how long the song had been around, and that the "dad" part was in it. i've liked the song very much -- one of those that pops into my head, every once in awhile for no reason. what makes the song, though, in my opinion, is that part when Paul sings (yearns): "When are you coming home." i find it to be quite powerful.
