I really like "I guess they tore that bridge out where we used to meet" as a more interesting way of saying, "but...it couldn't happen again."

I really like "I guess they tore that bridge out where we used to meet" as a more interesting way of saying, "but...it couldn't happen again." big surprise, i like that line a lot too but doh! I never thought of it metaphorically like that. thanks. I've been learning a lot on this thread: the back of his hand, the two friends, and now this

"anywhere you hang yourself is home"
*twisted cliché * from a completely underrated song
Makes me think of the exhaustion of being on the road, the last tour, and I imagine not a lot of talking going on.

"I smell your hair, on the clothes I wear I miss your face Can't ya see I'm bent all outta shape"
-What guy hasn't experienced this
"Why don't ya get a haircut, sister?"
-Always makes me laugh
"You've been swearing ta God, Now maybe if ya asked"
-Whole damn song is great
"I can live without yer touch, but I'll die within yer reach"
-One of my top ten favorite Mats songs
"Little girl keeps growin' up, Playing makeup, wearin' guitar"
-Yet another of the great songs
"& the truth is overrated, I suppose"
-So very true, so often
"1st thing we do, when we finally pull up, Get shit faced drunk, trying ta sober up"
-Again, so true, so often
"Tommy's too young, Bob's too drunk, I can only shout one note"
-Now tell me you don't wanna listen to band some more
"In the shadows she floats, & no one knows, I'm seenin' her"
-Goes hand in hand with "Bent Outta Shape"
"You like the frosting, But you just bought the cake"
-Great PW spin
"Saturday sippin' beer, Gettin' drunk without a year"
& the list goes on & on & on...

"I smell your hair, on the clothes I wear I miss your face Can't ya see I'm bent all outta shape" -What guy hasn't experienced this... I smell your hair, the clothes I wear I miss your face.... I like the twist that shows he's so bent that he's neglected to change his clothes, for how long? Seems to be a common thread. Ashtray floors, dirty clothes, and filthy jokes...

After reading "St. Paul's Letter to the Philistines pt.2", I had to revisit Suicaine. (though that guy's prose is so ornate it goes beyond purple straight into ultra-violet.)
Anyway, another one of Paul's most chilling yet unheralded lyrics from "Bookmark"
Mister Inappropriate Who washes his hands after He thinks someone is watching

a lot of times, it takes me a while before I realize something about a line.
"Remember, leave a trail of crumbs"
I just yesterday realized that the trail of crumbs was the one that screwed Hansel and Gretel over. The pebbles led them home, but the crumbs disappeared.
I always thought this line was very similar to the "remember where you started from", but now it seems more like a "well, yeah, but it's not going to get you back to where you started from, anyway". I like that.

I don't know what interview this exchange is from, but I always thought it was funny: Interviewer: "I don't think 'unsatisfied' is a word." Paul: "I guess that makes me unliterate." By the way, "unsatisfied" is a word according to my dictionary. I came across this while flipping through Garner's Modern American Usage (yes, I do casually flip through style guides): dissatisfied; unsatisfied. Some differentiation exists between these words. To be dissatisfied is to be positively bothered by the lack of satisfaction, whereas to be unsatisfied is to be less than satisfied. Thus, a person whose accounts are in arrears has debts that are unsatisfied--and creditors who are dissatisfied.

I'm just glad he didn't bellow "I'm so, I'm so.......dissatisfied." Would've ruined the whole thing.

I've always been partial to:
Check out the girl on that bellybutt-un and I wear an earring that I dangle from.
Hot Un has always seemed like a song that Paul knocked out one afternoon yet that damn thing is one of my favorites. Full of humor and a kickin' beat.
