Man, some of you folks are really hard on the guy. I like the CD, and yeah, some of it had to grow on me. But I think that by now you should know what you're getting into when you buy his CD's. Okay, maybe it isn't the most lyrically engaging stuff he's put out. But, jeez, give the guy some slack....otherwise he might be bound for the basement, never to be heard from again for another five years. Another five year prediction comes true hey, who knew?

Another five year prediction comes true hey, who knew? I had to do the math to believe it. Yep, five years!

Another five year prediction comes true hey, who knew? What about those 2 albums he's released since folker? To be fair, 49:00 was in his basement so it doesn't really negate the prediction. I also suppose Open Season is only sort of a paul album as it's not completely his work, and the songs are much more "forced" as they had to fit the movie. At the end of the day, at least it hasn't been a quiet 5 years. Phil

Well, true 49:00 came out, followed by 505, etc...but those weren't releases he was going to tour behind! I liked them and think highly of 49:00, but I still think of them as teasers and I'm waiting for a more conventional CD release, not mp3 file downloads. I mean, by now, he's gotta be running out of tape! C'mon Paul, turn those songs into Darren!

I was rather dissapointed when Folker came out. I borrowed it from my dad, and thought it was too mellow and boring. I ended up buying it in Madison a few years ago and gave it another try, and I loved it. I think I was expecting something more along the lines of Stereo/Mono and Come Feel Me Tremble, but i think in many ways its like the perfect bookmark to those albums. I was expecting to be dissapointed with Dead Man Shake based on what I had heard about it, but man, what a great album! Great old school Rockabilly/Blues feel to those songs, real dirty Rock N Roll, the way it's supposed to be! In my opinion, everything the guy touches turns to gold.

Wow, this is an old thread! Anyway...
I just bought Folker the other day and I think it's great. "Lookin Up in Heaven" is one of the most beautiful songs he's ever written, right up there with Skyway and It's a Wonderful Lie.
I don't dislike any of his albums, but of course there are some I like more than others, and Folker is definitely better than... well, it's better than All Shook Down. I think I like it more than SG as a whole, even though SG has more songs that particularly jump out at me. I dunno. Not his very best work but it's nowhere near awful.

You guys are nuts! Folker is only 3rd to 14 Songs and Eventually in the PW catalogue. S/M is the darling on this board for some reason. If you want to hear the weakest of Paul's lyrics just put on Stereo/Mono. Hey I love it all but Folker deserves WAY more respect than it gets on this board.

I don't know...You really find the lyrics on S/M "weak"?..."Baby Learns to Crawl", "Dirt to Mud", "Only Lie Worth Telling", "Got You Down", "Boring Enormous", "We May Be the Ones","Let the Bad Times Roll", "Silent Film Star", 2 Days 'Til Tomorrow", "Kickin' The Stall", "Between Love & Like", "AAA", ...I think these are some of the best things he's ever done...I think I tend to underrate "Folker", and if I sat down and listened to it again, and thought about it, I'd say there was more on there I liked than I realized...But I never play it...
