Runaway Wind came over my MP3 player the other day and it dawned on me that song features one of Westerberg's finest guitar solos. It fits the mood of the song perfectly.
Any others that people like?

I've always loved Paul's soaring solo at the end of "Sixteen Blue," as well as one in "Alex Chilton." I'm not a guitar player, so I guess my only criteria is 'emotion.'

I think the solo in They're Blind is pretty tasty.

I'm no guitarist, either, but Fugitive Kind and Final Hurrah never fail in making me reach for my tennis racquet.

Paul's guitar work after the last chorus in "The Ledge" is excellent, too.

The runaway Wind solo is about perfect. One of my favorites of all time by anybody.

All of the above are amazing, especially the bum note in 'Runaway Wind' that stops it from being too pretty.
I also love the very last solo in 'MLPS', just as it's fading out. Hella raw.

Anything on Alex Chilton would be all Paul since Bob was out of the band at the time of the recording. The soaring solo heard at the end of 16 Blue usually sounds to me like a Paul/Bob duet. However, I would bet money that Paul developed the lead melody. Bob is not credited with anything on the Let It Be record. CF

Love Untold
I believe Paul once said that the solo in that song is what ruined it as a "radio friendly" hit.
It's perfectly nasty.

There was a "Bob's best solos" or something post, and I had responded, as now, with "Sixteen Blue." Follow-up posts corrected me; it's Paul's solo. LIB's little liner note for "Sixteen Blue" says: "Paul plays 12-string electric, second lead."

I like the solo during "Baby Learns To Crawl". Listened to it twice on the way home from work today.

It's short, melodic and suits the song quite nicely. I also like how the slightly distorted guitar sound gives a nice respite from the rest of the songs more subdued tones.

I love the solo at the end of "Knockin' On Mine" from his SNL appearance. Man, they kicked ass on that song. To me, that ranks right up there in the best performances on that show (Neil Young's performance of 'Rockin' In The Free World' on SNL is my fave).

My favorite lead of Paul's is his in Johnny's Gonna Die. I love the guitar tone, the contrast from Bob's lead, and the feeling.

But my query was aimed more at solos from PW/Mats records.

You know, I was just thinking about this one. How about "Things"? It's not a real solo per se, but I like the sneaky country-tinged guitar licks and fills he does thru out the song. Anybody else like the guitar work on this one?
