I've been listening to PW's "Wild As I Wanna Be" and can't imagine why they didn't use this for the soundtrack - it sounds so damn good. I know the official reason is that he was sick but that doesn't take anything away from the song (I think he actually sounds a bit like Jeff Tweedy ). Tweedy did a soundtrack too -- I think Kathy and I are the only ones who bought the CD. A lot more instrumentals ... it was an indie movie and I think they let Tweedy's instrumentals stay in the soundtrack, not bringing in an expert to fix em up like poor PW. PW got off easy with Deathray, Yorn and even Byrne though. On Tweedy's movie soundtrack, there's one of the songs that the actor sings. Uggh.

How much different are the PW "I Belong" versions? I've seen comparisons to Pete Yorn but not of these.
Edit: Okay, I saw one comparison - nazareth made a comment about it being longer and more raw.

The 10" LP version is simply Paul and the piano- no backup band, cello, etc. I haven't yet decided which PW version I prefer.

To me, the piano/vocal version sounds like the demo that paul sent to Sony. It sounds like a one take stab at the song. The first take is always the best.

Who exactly does the label expect will buy the 12" vinyl that's identical to the CD?
Possible market segments: - Deathray fans that don't have a CD player - Westerberg fans who prefer vinyl and mandolin - Talking Heads fans whose copy of the "True Stories" LP has a scratch on "Wild, Wild Life"
I really can't think of any others.

The 10" "I Belong" is 4:34, as opposed to 4:13 on CD. It sounds like he's playing slower. There is something playing in the background, I don't know what you call it, a string instrument, probably mandolin but maybe guitar, trilling on two notes.

Whoever is bidding on that is nuts, there are tons available right here for $10. I'm pretty sure that this version of "I Belong" was recorded at Kevin Bowe's studio in July, that it's the one he refers to on his site: "One song was a piano/vocal ballad that Paul cut live on the grand up in the living room and at the end of the take, Spike and I were almost in tears. Really, Spike was closer to blubber city than me though."

So the PW songs left off the 10" are: Good Day All About Me Whisper Me Luck My bad. Whisper Me Luck is of course on the 10" as Kathy said in the first place. I can see why Good Day wasn't included. But it's too bad "All About Me" got lopped off -- for time reasons I'm guessing, since both sides are around 12 minutes.

Has anyone been able to find the 12" vinyl version? I've looked around but can't find any mention of it other than this board.

Does anyone have a digital version of the WIld as I wanna Be (replacement) yet? I'd like to edit that onto a disk and don't know how to pull off the EP.
