www.worldbunco.com/"Bunco dates back to the late 1800's and was played by groups of women, school children, and couples. The old fashioned game of the future is becoming ever more popular at parties, social events, and new groups are popping up across the country." I'm not sure exactly whatthe rules are but the "required supplies" are: 1. 12 fun-loving people, 1 of which is the hostess for the month. 2. 3 tables, 4 people, each table. 3. At each table: 3 dice, 2 pencils, 2 scratch pads and a score sheet for each person. 4. Bell to signal rounds (Stays at head table). 5. 1 Fuzzy Traveling Die (Begins at head table). I always wondered where that Clash song "Bunco Partner" came from.

From Philadelphia Inquirer 10/8www.philly.com/mld/philly/entertainment/15694983.htmOriginal Soundtrack Open Season: Featuring the Songs of Paul Westerberg (Lost Highway **1/2) After several albums he recorded himself in his basement, former Replacements front man Paul Westerberg has made a pretty drastic leap back into the majors with his soundtrack to the Sony animated film Open Season. Westerberg's eight songs focus on the winsome and jangly side of his musical personality. The catchy and vibrant rockers "Meet Me in the Meadow" and "Love You in the Fall" benefit from the higher production values. But other songs, such as the ballad "I Belong" and "All About Me," are dull and formulaic. The album also features two acts taking stabs at Westerberg songs. Pete Yorn's "I Belong" goes nowhere as well, but Deathray offers a fun, Bay City Rollers-like reading of "Wild As I Wanna Be."

No wonder I like their version so much, it's that Bay City Rollers sound!

from espn.com's Tuesday Morning Quarterback:
Also crossing over from fun to boring is computer animation. There have now been about 15 consecutive computer-animated movies in which celebrities do voice-overs for sassy, wisecracking animals loose in the city or suburbs. The first eight or nine of these all-but-identical movies might have been amusing; the most recent bunch belly-flopped at the box office. Gee, wonder why?

from a post on Marshall Crenshaw's message board:
The new "Open Season" soundtrack is very good. The Deathray tracks compliment Westerbergs just fine. Nice inclusion of Talking Heads "Wild, Wild Life", too. I hope we see more scores by folks like this.

Breaking News! Westerberg project declared a financial disappointment!"Monster House," "Barnyard: The Original Party Animals" and "Open Season" are also considered disappointments by the investment community because each of these films failed to achieve blockbuster status (I.E. Earning over $100 million during their initial domestic release). Though -- to be fair -- given that "Open Season" has only been in theaters for 19 days now, it's still too early to say that this Sony Animation production won't actually be able to achieve blockbuster status.

Bill Syken's Scorecard Daily blog at sportsillustrated.comThis week I don't like: • That with the World Series rainouts, I haven't heard any talk of a day-night doubleheader. • That Tower Records is going out of business. I'm not sure which makes me feel older: that, or former Replacements lead singer Paul Westerberg doing the soundtrack for a children's movie, Open Season.

Album of the Week "Open Season: Featuring the Songs of Paul Westerberg." Paul Westerberg doing the soundtrack to a kiddie movie? Yup, the guy can do no wrong. If you're a fan of the Replacements or Westerberg's solo efforts or good music, this one will fit nicely into your collection. So. Cal. Press Enterprise

Open Season
Tennispalatset 1 & 5, Kinopalatsi 1 & 10, Kino Itäkeskus, Kino Myyri, Kino Tapiola, Omena, Bio Grani
Regi: Roger Allers & Jill Cutton. Manus: Steve Bencich & Ron J. Friedman. Röster (originalversionen): Martin Lawrence, Ashton Kutcher, Jon Favreau.

It would appear to me that this movie has done pretty well... Its still in the top 10 after 6 weeks and has grossed $81M...I'm not sure what they were expecting, but this looks like a winner to me..
