What do you guys want out of the next Paul release? I'm just hopin' for more rockin' guitar tracks. Don't get me wrong, I love his mellower side, but I just think he should mix it up more. A good mix of guitar driven rock tunes, folk tunes and depressing piano classics.

Sounds like Suicaine.

A dozen guitar driven rockers along with a pair of depressing piano classics would suit me just fine...

I love Mono. I know I'm in the minority but I thought Mono was much better than Stereo, so I'd like to see him stay closer to that record. Maybe touring with such a great band last spring has re-kindled his rock & roll flame.

I actually prefer his pre-basement studio recordings, so I'm hoping for more of that. The basement tapes are fine, but after listening to Besterberg, I prefer my rock with a least a little polish to it, and the real studio recordings have it. (Especially on the drums!)

this has been covered a number of times, but i think the popular consensus was to make another basement album with his only friends.
they can play slow, fast, whatever they want as far as i am concerned.

Just some good heartfelt songs without any filler.

Another record that, when first listened to seems almost disappointing and then, after several listenings, begins to grow on the listener, eventually becoming a "must have". Maybe it's that delayed gratifaction thing.

Maybe touring with such a great band last spring has re-kindled his rock & roll flame. I agree completely. Take 90% of Mono and throw in a couple of Meet Me Down the Alley/Crackle and Drag-style acoustic numbers and maybe an As Far As I Know popper and I would be a very very happy girl.

Maybe it's that delayed gratifaction thing. Not for me. Blow me away from the first song Paul. Then give me another 12-14 tunes I can't live without & hold the filler.

I want to hear the ending to"Pauls Itinerary" .... that would be good between-song filler...

He's done everything else.....so i hope for a country album......i know that sounds crazy but i'm talking about a sloppy hank williams style rock n roll country album as sloppy as dead man shake. He's come close to country before ( " I'm so lonesome i could Cry.) Some songs could be country if he had the accent (23 yrs. ago).......Mono was great.....i'd like to see his punk side come out a little more. Borstal Breakout was a good sign.

I've been saying it for months. His next route is an obvious one. Look at the pattern:
Mono: Rolling Stones tribute (more or less) Dead Man Shake: Blues album Folker: Folk album
He's covered all the major (non-synthetic) bases...so obviously, the next stop is....
HEAVY METAL ALBUM!!!
A couple of Motorhead covers, some Slade, a few gnarly originals, and maybe he get Tommy to talk Buckethead into playing on a few songs.
It's a musical renaissance waiting to happen.

Since Paul does most of his recording at home on analog tape (I'm sure I read that somewhere), and since he's used title like "Mono" and "Stereo", how 'bout... "Analog"? Just a bunch of cool sounding stuff on an analog source. Of course that means dusting of your turntables or tape decks and there would, of course, have to be a digital version- perhaps called "Digital Analog". At the risk of sounding like a dinosaur, I miss analog sound. It's the way sound occurs naturally and it's the way (I believe) P.W. would sound best. SACD is the only digital source that approaches analog and that's still a fairly obscure and expensive way to go and it's STILL not really analog. OK, enough soap box.

Actually, Paul specifically said in one interview (not long after "Stereo/Mono" came out) that he recorded digitally in his basement. He expressed some regret about that, but also said that he found a way to "f**k up the sound" (i.e. add some grit to it) by running the feed through a guitar amp at some point in the process.

I read recently that the last manufacturer of analog tape for recording has stopped making it.... PW will be forced to go digital unless he stocks up....

Yeah, I thought read somewhere that he was using an 8 track ADAT machine to record. So, yeah, he better stock up on tape!

And Paul would be raking in the cash from the royalties. But maybe that song is waaay too close to Paul's heart for him to let some country singer twist his song around.

I'm with RJ and angela: Give me Mono, part 2, and I'm one happy camper. Give it to a few radio stations, and then maybe others will catch on.
If that's not possible, then Stink, part 2. Paul's still got some punk in him. Maybe more than he'd like to admit.
