Great stuff! Way to put it together!
Isn't there a tune out there called "Watering Can" or something like that? Also one called "Whatever Happened to Paul"? Both only performed live once.

I agree with the “A free man in the morning/I’ll be a free man in the evening” lines.
I kind of wanted it to be "You're free half the morning/I'm a free man in the evening" the first time this part plays,as in their schedules don't work out. Then the second time it's “I'll be a free man in the morning/I’ll be a free man in the evening” as in either it didn't work out so now he can do what he wants when he wants,or it could mean he's willing to be there whenever to keep it going. It could still mean that regardless.
Also I hear "We used to flip the bird until the bird turned to the dream." Like maybe they no longer care what becomes of the band going forward because of,maybe, the pressure of having to live up to the past. It's all subjective interpretation of course.
It's cool to pick over a song that may be addressing the relationship within the band, but I can relate it to my own life as well with old friends and relationships with people that have soured or fallen away or got too complicated. The ones that are maybe long gone, but kind of stick in the back of your mind.

Thanks! You filled in some things I couldn't quite make out. I think the first line is "We got too hungry to eat".
I also hear this song as a message to PW about the band.

Anyone care to take a stab at the lyrics for this Tommy Stinson song?

Maybe the fear or dread of being a working stiff for life was the backdrop of it all. Almost like a Cool Hand Luke thing.
Johnny Rotten screaming "No future". The Buzzcocks "I Don't Know What To Do With My Life".
It seemed he was chronicling the band members lives, which made it relatable.
Their discography perhaps the autobiographical Odyssey of(and for)malcontents & outsiders.
Robert Christgau called Westerberg's depiction of teen angst unparalleled in music.

"Paul himself has said in an old interview that he doesn't like politics in his rock and roll. Well, nobody likes to be preached to and lectured....but you can always make a statement thru observations about the times and leave it to the listener to decide what it means. I think of Neil Young's "Rockin' in The Free World".
That's kind of the point of this thread. He doesn't get political, but many of his songs seem to be conveying some form of social commentary that is affected by politics.

The line in Country Boy as I hear it is...
"I don't know much about gay pride, eating clean, animal rights and all that important stuff."
The song was released in 2017.
He did release the song "Surrounded By Morons" about the same time as "Country Boy" and that chorus goes...
"Hands up/Surrounded By Morons"

I'm looking for help finding lines,or even full songs,of social commentary in PW's writing.
For example:
"Everything you dream of is right in front of you/Liberty is a lie" from Unsatisfied.
Who want's to play?

Wonderfully edited, too harsh on the post Tim,post Bob,output to be something I'd want to share with someone new to the band. Should just say something like... "The Replacements went on to release three more critically acclaimed albums before hanging it up in 1991.Though many(fans)contend, the band never burned as bright after Bob Stinsons' departure." If that's the point of the video.

Took a chance and ordered from PopMarket last week since it was 20 bucks cheaper than Rhino. It has shipped and tracking has it being delivered by Monday. Maybe an option if someone hasn't ordered it yet.

Did anyone see the video that was made for this song? It had pictures and scenes from movies that went with the lyrics. Is it online anywhere?

It would be cool if the Replacements found the magic again and made another album that captured their former glory.Though I think Tommy's Can't Be Bothered song best captures the conundrum of the modern day 'mats. They got the reunion tour right though!
I just heard the new X album Alphabetland and it sounds just like them, like it was recorded in '83 by Ray Manzarek! Sebadoh(Act Surprised)and David Berman(Purple Mountains)put out strong albums last year that are as good as anything they have ever done. Devo's Something For Everybody album is great, and J Mascis keeps putting out instantly classic stuff.
Until the Replacements head back into the studio, does anyone have any other late career examples of,not just good late period albums, but albums that capture the magic of the heyday stuff by anyone?
