So... It seems like these deluxe boxes have been announced in August and released in late September/October. Any guesses to what the next album will get the deluxe treatment? My predicted order is:
Hootenanny Tim Let It Be All Shook Down
I hope they do these with Paul's 1st two solo albums as well. One last thing if anyone see's Tommy while he is out playing can we get a date for the Cowboys album, I'm sure the vinyl delays are delaying the release. I thought he said he had another Bash & Pop album in the can as well.

Won't be a deluxe this year as per Mehr.
That being said, Tim or LIB seem like the logical next steps.

I’m hoping that somehow they’re able to remix Tim like they did Don’t Tell a Soul.

Is there really enough unheard material to justify a Tim release?
They already lost a potential component with Maxwell already being released and it would be somewhat redundant to include that show to pad it out.
Maybe they will release some kind of catch all of unreleased/rare stuff from 82-85.
Unless there is a lot of stuff that we don't know about beyond what has been released already and songs that have circulated on bootlegs for years from Stink through Tim.

Would be foolish to combine any years/albums into a general compilation release, there's enough to justify standalone releases for all the albums. Maybe Stink/Hoot could be packaged but that's the only one I'd be willing to take that risk on, let em' dig for stuff.

Bummer, I had not heard there would not be a release this year, these releases have been like a holiday for me and the build up to them with new videos etc have been excellent. Did Mehr say more to come?

I have little interest in unheard material, maybe if there were a lot of takes from the Alex Chilton sessions, then yeah. Tim, for me, is an album filled with brilliant songs, perhaps their best one. IMO, the ratio of great songs vs. OK songs is very high compared to their other albums. Here's a quote from Westerberg from Jim Walsh's book: "...and producer Tommy Erdelyi, for all the help he gave us, did a pretty crap-ass job at mixing the thing. I mean he mixed it on headphones 'cause he was deaf from playing with the Ramones. So it didn't help us a whole lot. But it's got some great tunes on it"Tim has always sounded subpar; sonically, it was a piece of shit. Too much reverb, the drums and bass were not presented well in the mix, has a tinny, muddy sound throughout. Even when I first bought the album when it came out, I was disappointed with the sound. Out of all of their records, Tim absolutely deserves a remix, but by someone who knows what they're doing with good ears. Take the 16 or 24 track tapes and start from scratch. If this were the last re-release, I would be satisfied.

Agree with all of this (except I thought DTAS needed the remix more!). A remix of Tim would be awesome. It's the only other thing that needs a remix.
It's also been surprising what extras they're holding onto that no one knows about. Maybe there's another Tim-era show, or some outtakes or whatever.

Well we got our Tim wish and it was loaded with goodies. 40th of Let It Be could be next or at least would make sense. Next guess will the Live album from Tim/Let It Bleed or Outtakes/Demos be the record store release in April?

All I would really like is a DVD of the Midway show.

Since I think they just might save Let It Be for last, I wouldn't mind seeing Hootenanny be next, hopefully with the Rhino ordering bonus being a re-issue of The Shit Hits The Fans!

Would be cool to get a Hootenanny deluxe with a live show and some rarities. They could also combine it with Stink maybe. I'd love it, but I would assume it would be the release with the least amount of interest from their catalog.
Releasing TSHtF would be very expensive because it's almost all covers and that's a lot of licenses to purchase. Not like they couldn't, but not sure they would. It's also LIB era, so probably more likely with that album if they were to do it.

Looking at the chronology, it seems like I was pretty off, so if they did do The Shit Hits The Fans as either a full re-issue or as a bonus with any of the sets, Let It Be would be most appropriate. Great point on the licensing Jer. If they gave it as a free giveaway, I'm not sure whether the licensing issue would be quite the same, but I'm sure Warner only wants to do these releases to make money, so if putting that out would kill the profits, we can just hang onto the quality bootlegs out there. It'll be interesting to see how much a Hootenanny reissue has from Stink, Paul's been pretty open about mostly hating that record, though he hates a lot of his solo stuff that we adore too.

IMO, there is no real reason to re-issue SHTF as a "Deluxe Edition". I have the cassette, it's been years since I played it since I no longer own a player device. But the audio quality is subpar, to put it kindly, it would be difficult to gussy it up for a special release. And you can listen to it in its entirety on you tube. Plus most of the performances are forgettable, it ain't Live at Maxwells. But out of all of the song on the cassette, this one is the lone diamond, perhaps my favorite rendition of the song.

I thought the guy on the Steve Hoffman forums that worked at Rhino pretty much already said they wouldn't be doing anything with SHTF because Paul hates it or something.

I would have to say that the one individual opinion concerning the work of the Replacements or Paul Westerberg that I value the least is Paul's...Heh...This is the guy who said that "Jingle" was the best song he ever wrote and that "Unsatisfied" was crap...

I thought the guy on the Steve Hoffman forums that worked at Rhino pretty much already said they wouldn't be doing anything with SHTF because Paul hates it or something. I think there's almost no chance anything happens with it. Too expensive, little interest, not great, other stuff to focus on. If they gave it as a free giveaway, I'm not sure whether the licensing issue would be quite the same... A mechanical license is still needed. Just because the label and/or artist decides they want to give a cover song away for free doesn't mean the people who own it don't need to get paid.
So it would be like a small fee per released physical copy (CD, cassette, vinyl) pressed, and a separate amount per predicted stream, then a processing fee per license per song, multiplied by 20 out of the 24 songs that are covers, give or take (a couple could be public domain or whatever, I don't know). It would add up to several thousand pretty quick. And the streaming licenses have to be renewed annually I believe. Not back-breaking cash for a major label, but it adds up, probably not enough to justify the release I would guess.
... But out of all of the song on the cassette, this one is the lone diamond, perhaps my favorite rendition of the song. [Can't Hardly Wait] Agree on this - it's my favorite version by far. Each version after was not as good as the one before it, IMO. They could just do a bonus double 7" of the 4 original songs with the LIB deluxe. Now that would be cool.
